Connor's sitting at a table, with an open textbook, several pages of notes, and a milkshake.

He alternates between watching the observation window, and the people in the bar. Very occasionally he reads a few sentences from the textbook, but that never lasts long.

"Well, very well indeed..."

"Do you spend a lot of time here?"

"I like to think 'not too much', but yes, Milliways is a way to multiply my free time..."

"What do you do back in your normal world?"

"I study, mostly... several subjects."

"Really? Me too. I'm a student at, um..." He isn't sure how education works in her time. "...a big school. One of the biggest in my country."

"A University? There is one in Prague, one of the best in the world..."

He nods. "It's called Stanford. My country didn't exist back in your time, it's only a few hundred years old."

"The 'United States of America'. I have heard about it. Sounds much like a confederation, not a country..."

"I guess it is. I like it, though."

"I find it somewhat strange. It is hard to rule, if there is not a really strong central power." A nod.

"We do call ourselves the land of the free. And there's always a bunch of people who hate our President and like that it's hard for him to rule."

"But, what is freedom? What it is, to be free?"

He shrugs. "In a philisophical sense, I dunno. For the country, it's about being able to say whatever we want, follow whatever religion, things like that."

A nod making a mental note... "I see." Not wanting to extend the talk into philosophy too much.

(oh, connor can sense supernatural things?)

"What country do you live in?"

"Central Bohemia... the city of Prague. it is in Europe"

(takes while to notice, but her heartbeat is there, but very slow.)

He nods. "What's it like there?"

"It is... at once, wonderful, and terrible. It is the Dark Ages: the Long Night of human knowledge, where wonders happen in secreat places, and the Church hunts those who do not submit..."

He tilts his head curiously. "What kind of wonders?"

"Magic, and Science..."

A thoughful frown crosses his face. "I don't know much about magic. Seen some done, though."

"Most people do not know. And of those who do know, most think magic is evil."

"I get why someone would think that- power not meant for mankind and everything. I didn't like it for a while, but that was just 'cause it kept going wrong."

He thinks about the life he loves that he only has because of magic. "I know it can be good, though."

"A knife can be used to make dinner or to murder people..." She nods.
