There is a huge pile of parts in one corner of the bar. And there is also a yellow blur zipping around the pile, shifting them and organizing them. From time to time, the blur zooms over to the bar, so Bart can order another part. He seems quite happy.

"So, the flux capicator is connected to the inhibition unit over, here, but where..."

Zip.

"Bar? I need a 3/8 quarter processing left flange triconectial unit please."

Said item appears, and Bart zips back to his pile. Feel free to bug him at his work, or just ogle his genius.

*Surreal walks downstairs, stretching lazily and spots Bart*

Bart is staring at what looks like a car engine, a spanner in his hand. He's scratching his head.

"But the pipe is too small to run through the tranpositional gambit..."

He turns, and smile at the lady.

"Oh hey!"

He gestures at his pile of parts.

"I'm building a device for penetrating the crosstime barrier of the universe."

You're I beg your pardon?

*She brings her beer over and sits down*

Bart tries to put it in small terms.

"I'm building a machine capable of time travel and universe crossing."

"Nope. I'm never satisfied."

He grins at her.

"Plus, I'd be using this place as a sort of jumping off point. This device would be most useful in helping people get home. Probably."

He bobs his head.

"I'm sometimes one of them. The bar won't let me leave until it wants me to go."

*She looks surprised and displeased*

That's a real problem, sugar.

He shrugs.

"Not as bad as you might think? For most of us, time doesn't pass while we're here. But still, when you've just come from something nasty, and you want to find out what happens, being stuck here for a week can be terrible on your nerves."

*She shakes her haed and gulps her beer*

Ray, who has been on the busy side lately, pokes his head into the crowded corner. "What's going on?" he inquires curiously.

Bart zips to a pause next to ray.

"My older self left me some blue prints. At least, I'm pretty sure it was my older self. It could've been my evil clone. But I'm pretty sure it was me."

"Oooo. Blueprints for what?" Ray asks. "It looks like something I shouldn't poke."

Bart blurs, and when he comes back he has a handful of very detailed blue prints. The one on top looks like a treadmill of some sort. But thats only the top picture of it, none of the detail stuff. Thats further in.

"Oh, all kinds of stuff! Well, three things, really, but he set forth a couple of basic interconnections. Not everything, just some ideas on how to combine them. I'm having a small issue with getting this phase induction coil to not implode on contact with the graviton well, but they should line up..."

Ray peers at the treadmill blueprints. "This looks familiar," he murmurs. "Or it looks like it should look familiar... Oh, heck, if the graviton source is all that's giving you trouble you should really look into tightening the initial aperture. I mean, when Anakin helped me modify the proton packs to avoid the protonic reversal issue, he introduced some small-scale gravitic fluxes into the accelerator chambers and let me tell you, they've worked marvels. But the generators all had much tighter exits than entrances, so you should probably take that into account."

Note that he still doesn't know what the device is.

" Tighter exits. Ray, you're brilliant!"

Bart zips back into the pile again, fiddling with something. when he next emerges, there is a row of yellow lights shining atop said pile.

"Yes, that does seem to be working. This part shouldn't be too hard, I've built a cosmic treadmill before. It's just the connections that are weird."

Ray snaps his fingers. "Barry mentioned something like this once, didn't he? No, not a- it was a time treadmill, that's it. Bart, you naughty boy, are you trying to subvert the forces of history the hard way?"

Barts grin splits his face, it's so big.

"Thats right. It travels through time. One of those fun things that only speedsters really deal with. But he left me two other plans as well, a hyper jacket, which is used to break between alternate universe, and the designs for a legion flight ring. Along with ideas for how to link them. I think I can smooth it out a bit, make it all in one thing, instead of linked like he's suggesting."

Ray scratches at his head for a moment, thinking.

"Leaving aside the fact that I have a powerful urge to ask for a look at those ring schematics, is it really such a wise idea to unify the three items? No offense, but we are talking about something with moving parts here- if they break down they'll take all three components out at once. It'd be like those television sets with the DVD and VCR built in. If the VCR heads go or the spinny part of the DVD player breaks, you've got to get the whole thing dealt with."

"Well, from my point of view, if this thing is used from a locale with thin barriers, someplace where the wall between worlds is already thin, it might be useful to help people leave or return to such places. And it would need all three to work properly."

He scratches his head for a few moments.

"It's more useful to have them all working together, rather then trying to coordinate all three of them at once. I mean, when you're running on the treadmill, it's hard to activate jacket and ring as well."

"Ah, okay," Ray says. "Not really my field of ubertech, I'm afraid. Overlapping synergistic field effects, I take it? I'm better at fiddling with quantum disturbances than anything like this- if Egon were here he'd be able to help you, but I'm just an engineer."

He sighs slightly.

"But if I get this right? I'll be visiting Milliways on my choice, not its."
