Roland lets go of Moiraine's hand and looks around. SSDD.

"No. Absolutely not. And my parents wouldn't have asked it of me."

- I meant, *Meg says, glancing away,* when you changed things. They were things needed to be changed.

[lastgunslinger]

Quiet.

"The first one was. The second one...I didn't have a say in it."

[balletrat]

Which one -

*Meg hesitates, but pushes on.*

Which one was the one that caused the trouble, after? In your head?

[lastgunslinger]

Silence.

"The first one."

[balletrat]

*Meg nods, and bites her lip.*

I didn't mean to - *she starts, rather awkwardly, and stops herself.*

You're the only one I know who's got any experience with this, you see. I have to ask -

[lastgunslinger]

"I know. What else would you know about it?"

[balletrat]

*Meg's hands are linked tight together.*

You told me once -

I know it was fixed, somehow, but not quite - not quite how.

Roland considers how to explain this.

"It was Jake. I kept the man who killed him from killing him...and that meant he never passed into my world. So he was in his world, and he knew I existed...but I didn't. And it was the same with me. Never sure if he'd truly been there or not. And the voices wouldn't go away. It got to the point where I wasn't sleeping. Too many nightmares. And I asked Eddie and Susannah to keep my guns for me."

That says a lot, whether Meg realizes it or not.

"Eddie...can carve things of power. And he carved a key. When I held it, the voices were bearable. And it was that key that opened the door between the worlds -- one in New York, and one in a speaking ring in Mid-World -- that allowed Jake to come through. And once there was no doubt in either of our minds that it had happened...we were fixed."
