"I'm not going to admit that I'm not sure."

She may have been drinking, but probably she was just a little giddy.

"Well, you take one human soul, pledged to you in honest and fulfilled bargain..." Asar-Suti began, with a weird little grin.

"I don't think I could find one."

It may be rather scary that she's actually considering it.

"Depends on what you can offer them in bargain," Asar-Suti points out. "If you have the right thing to give, there's always somebody who'll sell their soul, sooner or later."

"I don't think I need anyone's soul."

She might sometimes be lacking one, but that didn't mean she needed to steal it.

"You do, if you want to follow my recipe for self-deification," Asar-Suti grins. "I never said it was easy being a god."

"But as a God you can kill whomever annoys you."

That sounded like a most pleasant prospect.

"Unless you're in Milliways, where you've got to keep the rules, even as a god," Asar-Suti laughs. "And I rather like being here, so I let some annoying little buggers live rather than leave."

"Pity, I know of a few people I'd kill without a second thought."

She figured he knew a few too.

He did.

"Yep, there's no light without shadow," he said.

"Does that also mean there is no shadow without light."

She had become rather cryptic lately, Milliways was changing her. She didn't like it one bit.

"That goes without saying; it's called logic. Logic does not always prevail, but helps in 90 percent of all cases," Asar-Suti adds, just as cryptic.

Of course Milliways is changing Aeryn . it is the place beyond all worlds, larger and more complicated than ay single world, and anybody would have their mind forcibly expanded to deal with it.

"I don't believe you. I've met plenty of shadows with no inkling of light. Plenty of purely evil people."

Of course, they probably hadn't been speaking of people.

"You are from a world that holds pure evil? Define pure evil."

Expect trouble, at least of the dialectic kind, if Asar-Suti starts asking for definitions.

"No. In fact, I'd rather not think of it."

There's no trouble when a denying Peacekeeper is involved. Oh, who am I kidding.

"I don't think it exists," Asar-Suri says, mildly. "Nor does pure good."

"I'm not so sure."

She wasn't sure of anything these days.

"Pure anything is an idea; and ideas never exist at one hundred percent in reality," Asar-Suti argues. "They are always diluted by entropy."

Aeryn nodded, trying her best not to seem like an ignorant soldier and finishing the last of her Klah.

"I'm sure."

"There is always a last little part that is redeemable," Asar-Suti claims. "There was in me. I am sure that somewhere, the is even in Kal Torak, the new dark god I spoke to just now; he is absolutely mental and has nothing to lose. But still; there is something in him that is a person."

"Sometimes, a person can't be redeemed. They have too much hate and hurt inside them to ever be healed."

It was probably good that she wasn't a God with great powers to hurt others.

"Theoretically, everybody can be redeemed," Asar-Suti says, being recently redeemed himself and thus especially convinced of it. "Only circumstances or people may not be right, or good enough, to actually redeem them. Life often fails somebody like that, but that doesn't mean they're irredeemable."

"Maybe life fails, because they don't deserve it."

God's didn't know everything. She didn't actually believe in God's, so it was easier for her to assume this much.

"Life doesn't care if you deserve anything or not. That has nothing to do with anything," Asar-Suti says, absolutely assured.

"You would know."

This conversation was getting entirely too philosophical for her and it was making her tired.
