Chase, yawning, slouches down the stairs and takes a seat at the bar. "Just coffee and some toast, thanks."

The Bar obliges. Next to the toast, however, a small cupcake with a candle on it also materializes, with the number 27 written on it in frosting.

Chase blinks. It takes a few sips of coffee for this to register.

"Oh!" He grins, and bites into the cupcake. "Thanks, Bar."

Anyone want to come wish Chase a happy birthday?

Jack laughs. "Considering there's a shark in the lake, possibly never. Though we could probably paddle around near the shore."

"There's a--"

He stops. "No, I remember, Xander said something about a shark. But...ergh. I, um, don't think I want Angela near the lake if there's a shark in it."

"Understandably. I'll just have to keep her away from the water, then. Though apparently Nita knows the shark, and he'll only attack any swimmers that are distressed. Which doesn't really help around this place."

"This place must be a buffet for that thing, then." He makes a mental note not to angst by the lake anymore.

"Wait, is this the landshark that everyone was talking about a few days ago?" Chase, of course, has not read Nita's canon.

"No, completely different shark. Which means there's more than one," he says wryly.

"Wonderful." He sighs. Oh well. He won't let it ruin his mood.

"Well, I haven't heard of anyone being attacked since they posted the notice about the sharks, and I figure Angie's safe with you anyway. Thanks, Jack."

"Hey, I remember what it was like having a toddler around the house. You two need some time to yourselves if only so you can hear yourselves think."

"Tell me about it." He grins. "Was Kim a real terror when she was Angela's age?"

Jack grins. "Yeah. I was still in the service so I came back from a mission expecting the litle girl who sat in her jolly jumper and giggled and found one who could almost run faster than I could."

"I know, it's amazing how fast they can wiggle away from you, isn't it? I mean, Angie's usually pretty well-behaved, but if she sees something she wants..."

"She's after it like a shot. Yeah, Kim was the same way. Just wait until she gets into the temper tantrums stage."

"Oh, that'll be fun. And I only have a few months left before I have to start worrying about potty training..."

"There are all kinds of embarassing stories I could tell about that, but I'm sure Kim would kill me."

He grins. "I won't ask. But I probably won't be so nice to Angela when she starts bringing home boyfriends."

"You think I was nice?" he says wryly. Then again he'd only had a couple years of that before Teri died and Kim wasn't exactly speaking to him.

He considers. "Is there a safe answer to that?"

His smile is teasing as he takes a sip of coffee.

"Probably not. You got off easy."

"I'm just lucky that way." He finishes he coffee and sets the cup down.

"I'm going to go see if I can find Kim. See you later?"

"Sure. Just find me later if you want me to babysit Angela."
