Birthday
When Grissom entered the bar this morning, it was with a deep sense of forboding. After twenty five years as a criminalist, he knew better than to ignore his first instincts.
Only when the Bar gave him a dated crossword puzzle along with his coffee did he understand why he felt so uneasy.
Today is my birthday.
Sara knows my birthday.
Such a revelation probably explains the look of anticipatory dread on his face.

Sara has told him, quite a while ago, and the expression on Grissom's face assures him that this is indeed the day.
"Happy birthday, Gil Grissom," he says, grinning at the man.

He's going to kill her.

Asar-Suti grins, positively demoniacally. He was going to let Gil Grissom squirm for a moment before he said what exactly.
This is fun. Good luck he himself doesn't have a birthday.

"My Gil and I have one as well; we spend lots of time on it. If you tell me where, I'll conjure the real thing," he promises, grinning brightly.

This was really good. "Take the picture, show Green!Jack, and then I will conjure it," he says. "As I am conjuring it, I can do any colour, not just a few, like some silly non-magical catalogue."
But honestly, he is expecting some sort of green - green like grasshoppers, green like Jack's power.

"I assure you, it is not," Gil says when Jack lets him breathe.

He does let him breathe. Really. He knows mortals need to.

He gives him the wrapped package. "Though you do get presents, of course."

There's a framed drawing in the package, pencil and watercolor, of Gil and Jack together.

He goes quiet, looking at the drawing. "This is exquisite," he says softly.

So, he's going with the safest bet: a card and some money. Say sorry, he's just not the adventurous type, although he's tried in earnest to tie it into Grissom's interests.
On the card is a picture of a man with a large pink birthday cake overcome with ants. The text at the bottom of the card reads: We don't mean to bug you, but...
Which is the cue to open the card. Written on the inside of the card is, simply: we just wanted to wish you happy birthday!
Written beneath the text:
Yeah, I know it's corny, but I couldn't find you a serious bug birthday card. They were all corny!
But, seriously, happy birthday. Thanks for being there as a friend, and as a customer.
Along with the card is $75 gift card to a book store.
