Claire is sitting under a tree with Seth today. It's not yet dusk, but the sun isn't nearly so bright out there, and well, it's much cooler than New Orleans.

She's in a pretty good mood too, and thus, so is Seth.

"Yes?" she shrugs. "But not what everyone seems to think. It just didn't work, is all."

She pauses and then says emphatically, "It's not Sawyer's fault."

*she nods*

You miss him?

*Penny's been in those relationships and she still mised every guy that was involved*

Claire looks out at the lake and nods. "Every second."

Yeah, figured as much.

Well, maybe Nathan'll be good for ya?

*she grins*

She smiles sadly and glances back at Penny. "I. . . Nathan's going into this date already committed to a relationship with me. And I'm not ready to be in one right now. So. . . I can't see much good coming from this date."

Did you tell him this? I can't see how he's ready for a relationship. You don't have to tell him I said that.

"Yes," she sighs again. "I've been telling him for months, but he keeps on insisting if I give him a chance. . ."

She shakes her head and lifts Seth into her arms.

"You know, really? If I didn't love Sawyer, I probably could love Nathan. But. . ."

*she nods*

I know, he's hard to talk to.

Well, maybe you should give Nathan a chance... He's a sweetheart, he's easy to care about...

*she's slightly frowning, but she's hoping it isn't noticed.*

It is.

"You care about Nathan a lot," she muses softly.

Yeah, I do.

*she shrugs*

She nods but doesn't pry. "Don't let him hate me too much, okay?"

Absolutely... I doubt it would last long even if he did. Besides he needs friends in this place

"He does," she agrees. "He definitely does at that. And I do want to be his friend. More than anything."

Yeah, I thought so. Too bad he probably won't like just being friends.

*she sighs*

I wish I had answers for you.

He wanted me to talk to you...

*she says quietly*

She nods and sits there for a long moment. "He probably knows then, somewhere inside him what I'm going to say."

Yeah, but other people have mentioned to him that he needs to be careful and that pissed him off...

If I didn't like him so much, I wouldn't care but... He seems convinced that he's what you need.

"I know. I can't seem to convince him that the things I need right now are to find myself, and make my child's life better. There isn't much room for anyone else."

That makes sense.

"I just wish he would see that."

Well, he's already got himself convinced that he can win you over... he isn't listening to anyone...
