Claire is sitting under a tree with Seth today. It's not yet dusk, but the sun isn't nearly so bright out there, and well, it's much cooler than New Orleans.

She's in a pretty good mood too, and thus, so is Seth.

The three little pigs sided with Goldilocks during the revolution and were executed over a year ago. Briar and Cindy, in that order, were Prince Charming's other wives. We're friends now, still had dinner together occasionally. Red Riding Hood. . . Boy Blue knew her, but she never made it out of the Homelands.

". . ." Claire blinks. "Wow. Disney was way off."

Extremely far off. Frankly, I don't think I can be held accountable for my actions if he walks in the door.

"Hm," she nods. "Have you seen those movies and things?"

*a sigh*

Yes. I've seen the Disney version, and read quite a few different versions of my story. It's oddly fascinating seeing how people manage to misinterpret your past.

"There's a whole line of merchandise too, called the Princess collection. All pink and glittery. I don't think I've ever seen you wear pink."

She pauses. ". . .Or glitter."

*a wince*

Only the one time that I attempted a craft project with Millie and Wade, if that counts. At least it's somewhat comforting that the Disney version doesn't actually look like me.

"Not as pretty," she agrees. "Cute though. Was there really an evil step mother? There is in most Disney movies."

*Snow quiets*

Yes, I had an evil stepmother. Things were quite different from my perspective, though.

"You didn't think she was evil?" she asks softly, glancing at her friend.

. . . it was complicated. There's always more to the story than they tell you.

"Of course there is," she nods.

"It always bothered me that the mother was always the evil character in the stories. Sometimes the father can be evil too."

My father wasn't evil, but never cared enough to protect me, no matter which version they tell. Usually, that part is overlooked.

Claire makes a face but doesn't say anything for awhile.

"Hansel and Gretel?"

At the time I left, they shared an apartment on the fifth floor of the Woodland. They were generally quiet, and I never really had cause to meet with them -- they paid their rent on time and kept their heads down around the Mundys, and that's all I really hoped for for anyone in Fabletown. Made my job easier, certainly.

"At least they weren't eaten," she sighs.

No, they weren't.

*Snow chooses not to say anything about Frau Tottenkinder*

"Good." She nods and pulls another name off the top of her head, "What about the Gingerbread man?"

Didn't make it out of the Homelands. A journey like that, you really need to be up to the challenge. . . a walking pastry, may he rest in peace, had little chance of making it.

"Oh. That's awful," she frowns and decides she doesn't like this game anymore.

"Okay enough of that. It's getting depressing."

*a small shrug*

It's life. Many of us made it, some didn't. We've gone on as best we can, for the most part.

Claire nods. "Well, I'm glad you made it. I would be a horrible mother if you weren't around to show me how to do everything."

You'd be fine. I had to figure out everything from scratch, with only an occasional book Bar would lend me. And from what I've heard, every mother starts the same way.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah," she smirks. "You're just modest. You know I'd be running around flailing if not for you."

*a grin*

But that's a part of every mother's routine at some point . . . you mean I made you skip that? Oh, well, you might be able to make up for it, especially since we're in Milliways. Just let Seth hang out with Sunny when he's learning to speak.
