(no subject)

Todd's by the fireplace, reading Yeats, though he occasionally reads some Frost or Byron too.

He's keeping an eye out for any of his friends though. Plus observing others, seeking possible inspiration for poetry.

A grin appears by the fireplace, hovering about three feet above the floor. Some might not even notice it.

[identity profile] all-mad.livejournal.com 2005-08-27 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
A large decomposing cat fades into existence around the grin, just in time to jump up onto the back of the man's chair and begin to read over his shoulder.

As Tood turns the page, a paw with excess skin pooling around it reaches out from behind his head and flips it back. The Cat wasn't done with the previous page.

"Well, hello to you too."

The cat grins at him. not that this is a change at all. His voice is a deep rumble with a British accent.

"Can we go back to reading now?"

[identity profile] all-mad.livejournal.com 2005-08-27 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
He sits up to his full height of three feet, the bones that make up his neck brackling as he does so.

"I'm a cheshire cat. What are you?"

[identity profile] all-mad.livejournal.com 2005-08-27 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
The Cat sees an opportunity to mess with someone and pounces on it.

"I don't know. Why don't you tell me?"

[identity profile] all-mad.livejournal.com 2005-08-27 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
The Cat raises his eyebrows.

"Are you sure? That this place is real, I mean? You could be in an asylum, after all, dreaming all this."

[identity profile] all-mad.livejournal.com 2005-08-27 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
The cat waves its paw dismissively.

"Piffle. You can be pinched, as well as read, in dreams, if the dreams are convincing enough."

[identity profile] all-mad.livejournal.com 2005-08-27 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
The Cat does not seem at all convince.

"Okay. If you say so."

[identity profile] all-mad.livejournal.com 2005-08-27 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, come now. Being crazy isn't all that bad. I mean, at least you get to be here at all. Even if it is just in your head. And..."

The Cat is about to go on philosophically, but his paws have started to disappear.

"Oh, blast. Look at the time. I really must be going."

With that, he abruptly disappears.

*Penny wanders over and speaks in a poem that Tod will not recognize.
The changing light
at San Francisco
is none of your East Coast light
none of your
pearly light of Paris
The light of San Francisco
is a sea light
an island light
And the light of fog
blanketing the hills
drifting in at night
through the Golden Gate
to lie on the city at dawn
And then the halcyon late mornings
after the fog burns off
and the sun paints white houses
with the sea light of Greece
with sharp clean shadows
making the town look like
it had just been painted

But the wind comes up at four o'clock
sweeping the hills

And then the veil of light of early evening

And then another scrim
when the new night fog
floats in
And in that vale of light
the city drifts
anchorless upon the ocean

Lawrence Ferlinghetti, he's a living poet...

*She laughs*

[identity profile] moroccofor1year.livejournal.com 2005-08-27 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, he's popular in my time.

[identity profile] moroccofor1year.livejournal.com 2005-08-27 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
You aren't as far from me as I thought.

*she laughs*

I'm from autumn of 1974, and I live in San Diego.

*she nods*

Usually people are from way far in my furture. I had gotten used to it.

[identity profile] moroccofor1year.livejournal.com 2005-08-27 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope there are a few from the 60's and 70's. The head barman is from a few years before me and some of the Hogwarts wizarding students I have met are from closer to our times.

[identity profile] moroccofor1year.livejournal.com 2005-08-27 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
There are at that. But you get used to it.

[identity profile] moroccofor1year.livejournal.com 2005-08-27 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
There are normal folks here too. We just need to stick together, honey.

*she smiles at him*
