Van Helsing and Beowulf come down the stairs. Van Helsing has a bag full of weapons that hits the table with a loud 'clank'.

Is he going somewhere? Planning a raid? Or just cleaning his weapons?

Giles noticed the weapons first, and silently approved, recognizing some pieces. Remembering Dawn's description, and seeing the very large dog by the man, he wondered if this one she had mentioned. Yes, very different from the novel indeed. This one sought out the evil more to destroy it.

He simply nodded a greeting, taking the man's cautious nature into account.

There may be a couple weapons Giles wouldn't recognize - the buzzsaw-like Tojo blades, for example - but many of them would seem familiar, if seemingly advanced for a man of the 19th century (though that fact isn't readily known just by looking at the man).

He nods in return and sets about cleaning silver stakes.

Giles studied them thoughtfully, "Are your vampires immune to wood then?"

He looks up.

"Immune? I... you'd have to ask Carl. They've always given me silver." He holds up one of the stakes and presses the release that makes it expand, the point shooting upwards; the weapon is about 18" long.

Giles nodded thoughtfully, "I understand its effectiveness against werewolves, and the legends of using a silver sickle in decapitating a vampire. But in practice, any wooden object had seemed to suffice on my world, or any method of decapitation."

He shrugs.

"This seems to work." A frown. "Except on Dracula."

Giles nodded, "So you have confronted him then. We had an incident in our world involving him oddly enough."

"Pretentious fool concerned about his hair?"

He doesn't mention the ponytail... yet.

"Pretentious yes, but less concerned with the hair."

"So, no ponytail?"

He shakes his head.

"Dracula was a bit more complex than the other vampires."

"No, this one was dressed more traditional, if a flair for theatre."

Giles nodded, "Yes, we found that to be the case as well. Apparently he had received some knowledge from the Gypsies and Roumanians in his region to garner him with mind control, and transubstantiate abilities."

"The Dracula in my world could only be killed by a... how was it phrased to me... a 'kick ass white hat werewolf' I believe was the phrase."

Giles blinked at that, "That seems unorthodox. Though I don't believe we were actually able to kill him. I was only informed that he was ordered to leave."

"No, as far as I'm aware, Dracula is dead... in my world obviously. This Dracula was immune to every other weapon at my disposal - stakes, crosses, fire. Carl determined that the only solution was werewolf, according to ~~the really fucked up brain of Stephen Sommers~~ a strange painting in the tower of the Valerious castle."

"Strange, the supernatural must have very different rules in your world."

Giles then said, "I would like to meet Carl sometime to discuss this further with him. Oh, and apologies for not introducing myself before, Rupert Giles. Dawn had mentioned you when I spoke to her yesterday. I don't know how many you have met from our world, including Slayers?"

"I think they're mostly the same, only Dracula seemed to have his own set of rules."

"Carl is probably wrapped around an ale and a book."

He nods at the introduction.

"Ah, yes, Dawn. Strange girl, but Beowulf likes her." He scratches the wolfhound's ears. "I've met two Slayers from what I believe is your world - Faith and Buffy. Though I've only seen Faith around recently."

Any of the others he would have met he wouldn't really know were from Giles' world.

"And to complete the introductions, I am Van Helsing."

"Yes, Dawn told me. She's a gifted, and intelligent young lady."

Giles nodded, "Yes, I know them both, especially Buffy. I was her Watcher for a number of years." Though he didn't know if the term had mentioned to Van Helsing at all.

"Watcher?"

The term sounds odd... so he waits for the explanation before altering his expression.

"I see, they didn't mention that part. Well, we are a private group."

Giles then said, "A Watcher is guide and mentor to the Slayer. We inform her, we train her, and make certain she has all of the resources necessary to do her duty." A glossed over, idealistic definition of the position, but it sufficed.

Not quite idealistic enough.

He snorts.

"Sounds like the Order." Was that disdain in his voice?

Giles noted that disdain, and returned it with some of his own, "I take this Order of yours probably has its share of backward minded pillocks like some of the Council members?" The disdain was tempered some since the Council was now no more, and it is ill to speak of the dead.

"More than it's share."

Though it's nice to know that this group of Watchers isn't all 'backward minded' or he might've had to alter his opinion of Giles before he'd even spoken with him much. Fortunately, that's not the case. He's rather tired of making enemies.

Giles nodded knowingly, "Yes, I have found that they do not adapt well to non-traditional concepts. I was once fired for my differing viewpoint."

And there's a Ripperish glint as he almost smirked, "Only to have them re-hire me because they needed my Slayer to help them."

"I feel I have the same problem. They don't like the way I handle my... assignments, but they can't get rid of me without risking their own hides."

"Yes, they were good at hiding when they had to. Luckily, that was primarily the Council, most Watchers were more rational and open-minded."

Until the First's minions hunted them down, and slaughtered them. A pensive look briefly touched upon Giles's features as he remembered.
