Alain's staked out the usual corner of the usual couch. Tea, for a change, and french fries. He's starting a new book, obtained by the usual method of asking the bar for something interesting. It's in English, this time: The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, by a man named L. Frank Baum.
So far, the little girl has just been swept up by a great wind, and dropped in a country full of slow mutants, killing an evil witch thereby.
Alain is still figuring out whether he likes this story.
Tucked into the book as a bookmark is a note the bar produced with his food.

No, he doesn't really believe it either.
There's an arm loosely around her waist.
no subject
Well, as solemnly as she can.
no subject
Alain eyes her.
And then he starts to snicker.
no subject
"Ooh, you're reading the Wizard of Oz? See, that should teach you the importance of sparkly feet!"
no subject
"There's toenail polish in this?"
He's about a page before the silver shoes part.

She's eyeing him.
"Okay, seriously. When can I paint your toenails?"
no subject
...There's no way in hell he's getting out of this.
A snort of laughter, and a shrug.
Luckily, he wears boots pretty constantly in public.

"I gave Indy tequila to make it easier on him. You can have that or nudity or both if you want."
Yeah... she's definitely been talking to Fleur recently.
no subject
"It's a deal," he murmurs against her lips.
no subject
Well, even if it isn't, it's pretty damn close. She's smiling as she kisses him back.
"Shiny. Even if I suspect you're only doing it for the nudity."
no subject
Beat.
"The nudity helps, I'll admit."
no subject
"You don't. And I thought so."
If it's possible to kiss someone smugly, she is.

"When did'ee manage to paint Bert?"
Alain is not snickering at all.
Well. Not yet, anyway.

"At the sleepover. Susan had to get him in there for a dare, and she promised him there would be people and alcohol and there was... only the people were me, Meg, Kaylee, Anthy, and Susan, and there was nail polish and glitter and really, he's lucky he escaped with only painted toes."
no subject
Kind of a lot.
Through his laughter, "Gods. Poor Bert."
no subject
"Hey, he didn't seem to mind too much. I think maybe secretly he liked it."
no subject
"Thee's a menace, thee are."
no subject
"Please. I like to think of myself as providing a valuable public service. I make people's feet prettier! How is that menacing?"

She's got a logical explanation for why this is true, of course. For given definitions of logical.

And that is how this makes sense. To Lilly, if no one else.

She sighs, shaking her head.
"The menacing thing is all due to you. You're a really corrupting influence, you ken?"
no subject
Well, not aloud. The yeah, right look is fairly eloquent.
