Charlie and Seth are playing the face game in a booth. Seth makes a face and then Charlie imitates it; or Charlie makes a face and Seth imitates it; and then they both laugh and laugh.

It's a very simple game and everybody wins.

"Not in front of the wee one," Charlie says archly and then hands Seth over. "Say hi to Daddy's friend Nick, Sethie."

Seth looks at Charlie, and then looks at HIM Nick.

And then starts wailing.

Blink.

He shakes his head, looking hurt for just a second before looking to Charlie.

"I...guess I caught him at a bad time. Or...perhaps he's sensitive to my kind. Vampires...can cause reactions in some creatures and in small children. They know we're...not what we're supposed to be."

Charlie takes Seth back and cuddles him. "Sh, sh, baby boy, you're okay. It's just Nicky.

"I don't know what brought that on. Usually he's so good with people. Maybe you're right--but he's fine with David." He shakes his head. "I'm sorry."

"Different sort of vampire...and I'm much older than David."

And I've done much worse than he ever has.

Charlie continues whispering and patting Seth, who is slowly calming down though he's not taking his eyes off Nick.

Tiny whimpers. Bad thing, Da. Bad thing.

"I still don't get it." He looks at Seth unhappily.

Nick shakes his head.

"Don't...don't worry about it."

But he won't look at Seth or Charlie.

"I'm sorry, Nicky."

He nods again before shaking his head.

"No, no, really."

A quick hand through the hair that started around his eyes to wipe away what wasn't tears but what was damn close. Then he looks to Charlie, eyes a little blank, but it's the best he can do.

"It's fine. It's...hazard of the condition."

Charlie shifts Seth to his other arm and hugs Nick around his neck, and kisses the top of his head.

Seth whimpers.

"I'm going to see if I can't put him down," Charlie says quietly. "We'll talk later, okay?"

He nods.

"Don't...don't worry about it. Spend time with your son. I'll...I'll be around. And, uh, I'm setting up for the wedding so you'll see me around more often. I...hope you have a suit, Charlie."

"I have a suit--and if I may say so, I look damn good in it." He beams at Nick and then returns to his booth, to pick up the baby paraphenalia and get Seth upstairs.

Nick nods.

"Yes, I'm sure you do."

Then he waves Charlie off and wishes him and Seth well.
