(no subject)

Belgarath is in the bar, sitting at a booth and looking a little subdued. After the fight with Garion a couple of days ago, he's been out in the forest, living as a wolf as a way to ease the ache he feels for his wife.

But living off bunnies loses its appeal eventually and he knew there were things that needed to be fixed. Hence, Belgarath, staring into a tankard of ale.

Walking up to the bar Amanda orders her usual fruit platter. When it arrives she turns to the gentleman on her left, "Would like some?"

"What do you normally eat then?" she takes a bite of a pinapple slice.

Amanda nods at that and extends her hand, "I'm Amanda" she bares a large friendly grin.

Amadna's smile widens a bit, "Lets see," she starts counting off on her fingers, "It's peaceful out there most of the time, Beautiful, there is plenty of open space for training, as well as the forest for training, the garden, Gimli's forge, ... need I go on?"

She starts to laugh, "What's fun is living and that's what the training helps me to do."

she gets herslef under control, "I often find people trying to kill me, so I train to make sure that I'm better than they are. Gimli is nice, and I haven't scene anyone that can match his skill with an axe."

"Many reason's but it usually boils down to power."

"How about you, what do you usually do around here?"

There is, as there was, a young man sitting cleaning armor. His movements change, however, as Belgarath walks in. They go from mildly satisfied to almost mechanical and while his eyes light a little as the old man takes up a tankard of ale, he doesn't approach. He'd rather not have his head bit off if his grandfather isn't ready to talk yet.

Eventually, however, he can't wait anymore so he puts down the armor and takes a seat beside Belgarath. He says nothing, of course, but he orders himself some tea and sips it gingerly.

"Grandfather."

He sips at his tea again. It's quiet for a time, as he looks at the old man. Sometimes it struck him that his grandfather was old. It was all very well to talk about how he was thousands of years old, but sometimes he was very good at covering the fact that he'd lived through each year just like anyone else did. This was one of those times.

And at the same time it struck him just how much he loved the old man beside him. He was a cranky as he like, a scoundrel and rascal and a brilliant friend, but he was also his Grandfather and sometimes the very thought of that almost brought him to tears.

He doesn't say any of this, but perhaps his posture is a little more open, a little less nervous and a little more prepared to just...fix things.

Something catches in his throat and he nods, ducking his head to the counter. After a moment, he turns to look over at his Grandfather.

"There's no one I'd rather have for a Grandfather. I'm proud to be your grandson...even if I do have a tendency to screw up monumentally."

[identity profile] wellthrownstone.livejournal.com 2005-10-21 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"I shouldn't have...said what I said. I'm sorry, Grandfather. I was unfair."

He finally lifts his head.

There's a small smile.

"No one is as old as you are."

There's a bit of mischief in his eyes as he nudges the old man gently.

"Though, of course, no one is as wise either."

He gives his grandfather a careful look before slinging an arm around his shoulders and giving a light squeeze. They could tease all they liked, but he needed to do it after the huge mess.

"And yes, I've met people older, but none wiser. Shame it doesn't run in the family."

He's smiling though. It's only a joke.
