Archie wanders slowly in from out back looking thoughtful. Yeah, he's been studying again. A smoothie appears on Bar's surface as he passes it. He takes it with a fond pat and heads over to one of the squashy chairs near the fireplace. Come talk to him.

He looks up at her with a smile, reaching to take her hand and bring it to his lips.
"Good evening, sweetest."
no subject
"To you as well, min ást. How are things going?"
no subject
He shrugs slightly.
"More studying. I asked Arithon if this wouldn't work since I'm from a world without such things, and he assured me that it would. It is taking a while though. Not that I expected it to be easy."
no subject
"... What wouldn't work?"

Hasn't she asked what he's been doing out back all this time? He's certain he'd told her. He produces the battered sheaf of notes from his inside pocket.
"Magic."
no subject
"Arithon's sort of magic?"
no subject
She can look at them all she likes, he hands them to her.
"Yes."
Miserably.

"... He told me how to see things, once. It is just... odd."
no subject
"That is, apparently part of it."
He sighs.
"Once I manage this, I shan't ask him for help again."
no subject
"... Oh."
She quietly hands the notes back to Archie.
no subject
"He doesn't particularly want to help me, but he must because I asked him."
He leans forward scrubbing his hands across his face.
"He says that he couldn't even have denyed me, once I had asked. So I simply will not ask him again."

Archie looks up and smiles easily enough at the other man.
"Bonjour."
Which exhausts about a third of his knowledge of French.
no subject
'You are English?'
no subject
"As much so as you are French, sir."
He's still smiling, Archie doesn't hold as much personal hostility against the French as he does against the Spanish. He moves towards the other, offering his hand.
"Archie Kennedy, lately of His Majesty's ship the Renown. Eighteen-oh-two, pleased to meet you, I'm sure."
((And my mum is insisting that I do the dishes, I'll be back shortly))

Athos smiles less when drunk than while sober - and that's saying something. Still, he shakes the offered hand out of politeness. France is not currently at active war with England in his time, and he's not a man that hates without reason - but he's wary all the same.
'A Naval officer?' He releases the hand and reaches for his wine, still eyeing the man. 'My name is Athos. I am one of the King's musketeers.'

"Indeed, I do not think that is a division that exists in my time. What brings you to this place?"
Archie has, oddly enough, a smoothie. He quite likes them.
no subject
((Craaaap.... Now she tells me we have to go up to my aunts. *grumbles* I'll be back. Again. Otherwise, I fear I must beg slowtime?))

'I do not know Monsieur. I find myself here quite unexpectedly.' He looks at the smoothie suspiciously but refrains from commenting. 'Do you find that there is generally a reason for people to be here?'
no subject
Archie is completely oblivious to the eyeing of his chosen beverage, he sips at it contentedly. Through a straw! It's the simple things, really.
"Some people have the ability to come and go as they please, others do not; they simply find themselves here much the way I did and you did as well, I suspect. How long have you been here, may I ask?"
((EEEeeee!!!))

"Indeed, the Healers here are quite marvelous. Magic and all that. I've been hear since January, and still I marvel at the different sorts of people that come here; gods and goddesses, angels, dead men, ghosts, things only thought of in legend where I came here from..."
He shrugs, sipping his smoothie some more.

Archie shifts uncomfortably in his seat.
"I... Ah... I'm not entirely sure, but there is a difference between someone who is dead in their world, and someone who is a ghost. I've met both. Sometimes it rather gives me a headache trying to sort it out, but I'm... Ah... One from the former category."
He stares down at his smoothie, he's never quite sure how people will react to that bit of information.
