Garion is out by the lake as well, watching Horse frolick and play. Despite being some years older now, Horse was still as playful and joyous as a colt. He gives Sharpe a smile and a wave.
There are very good reasons for that which involve Garion bringing the little stillborn creature back from Death at the risk of his own life, but they weren't easy to bring up in conversation. The colt was different, though, and the white mark on it's shoulder similar to the mark on every one of Garion's 'family'.
"I'll always think of him as a colt though. He used to follow me around everywhere. It drove Ce'Nedra insane because she kept trying to get the little creature to come to her with apples and sugar and all manners of things."
"Not once. I felt like a mother duck and it irritated her beyond the telling of it. I love my wife, but she doesn't take well to not being the center of attention."
"He's formed a bond with a young friend of mine, a boy named Errand. Mostly he sticks with him but, perhaps, Horse thought I needed a friend on my trip to the bar or something."
Horse nudges his nose against Sharpe's hand and liquid brown eyes focus on him totally before looking to Garion for a moment. Garion nods and the horse turns back.
"I wasn't born on the Isle of the Winds. I was born in...well, I think in Sendaria. That's where I was raised anyway. I know it a little better than I know Riva, but I'm learning. Luckily, the Rivan people are very patient with me."
Amanda catches site of Sharpe and Danny and makes a move to head towards them but then stops and sadly turns and continues walking in the same direction.

"My world, but not mine. He...well, I suppose he belongs to Errand. He was supposed to be with him in the Vale, but somehow he wandered in after me."
He seems to think.
"Then again...well, the whole issues complicated."

"He's always been an affectionate little thing."

"He's here, isn't he?"
Then he shakes his head.
"He's formed a bond with a young friend of mine, a boy named Errand. Mostly he sticks with him but, perhaps, Horse thought I needed a friend on my trip to the bar or something."

"He's a fine one."

"Yes. I'm sure he serves Errand well."
He looks to Sharpe.
"And I haven't even introduced myself."
He holds out a hand.
"Garion."

"Another Richard, though much different from the first I met. Good to meet you, Goodman Sharpe."

"I'm not from Earth, so I don't know how much mine would help, but Riva. I'm from the fifth age, year 5378, though I doubt it means much to you."

"I've heard it described as somewhat like Scotland or the British Isles. I don't know where those are, but it's supposed to be similar."
He smiles and Horse nudges his shoulder again.
"What? There's a lake if you're thirsty."
And the horse skitters off.
