Taking a Risk

Joe comes down from his room. Two nights he's spent in Milliways, and he feels a lot better for it. His skin is still sunburnt and cracked, but he doesn't look so corpsey, and he's a lot steadier on his feet. Two nights sleep and a few big meals.

He looks uneasily at the doors, not paying much attention to the early crowd in the bar. He's got something on his mind. Maybe I'm dead. But I don't feel dead. And I hate to hang around here waitin' to find out. He strides up to the doors and faces them nervously.

Hell, maybe they won't even open. He presses one hand against one door and it instantly swings free, opening on to an endless vista of desert. The question is, will he be dead and Hellbound on the other side? Or just dead and lost in the desert. He considers.

Then he steps back (leaving the door open--a hot, dry smell wafts through the room, along with a certain amount of sand) and hurries back to the bar. "Bar, can I get a compass an' a map?"

They appear, taking the last of his positive bar tab. The needle of the compass is spinning slowly, but he suspects it'll work on the other side of the door. The map is marked with two places, one labeled Middle of Nowhere, Desert and the other labeled Tiny Mexican Village. "Canteen, too? Thanks."

He steps through the door, grinning. It hurts his face a little bit.

[OOC: Joe-mun has a bunch of thesis-related stuff. And then to make things worse, Dark Tower 7 came in the mail. Sooo Joe may not be back til the weekend.]

*Trinity sees Joe when he comes up to the bar and nods at him in greeting before taking her newly-acquired laptop to a table. She watches him as he leaves.*
