John Preston inna bar. Mulling over the state of affairs in his world with a cup of tea, petting Ludwig. Ludwig, for his part, is sitting idly by watching people.

Someone might wanna tell him to eat something.

"No appologies needed, there is plenty of room" looking down at the dog, "and this one seems to be quite comfortable." offering a smile, "How do you do young man?" he can be friendly.

"I'm all right." Preston says, "Just thinking."

Beat.

"I'm john Preston." A good way to make friends is introductions...

"Archimedes, pleasure to meet you."

Turning his head towards the young fellow, "What is on your mind?"

If there's a name that Preston knows it's Archimedes, but he says nothing, chewing on the insight and the inside of his tongue.

"...A lot of things." Preston says softly, "Affairs of state."

"What is it that you do back in your state?" He of course is refering to city-state.

"...I'm a police man." Preston says, "A loyal officer of the government." He looks bitter, "But the government is corrupt."

Most are, even he knows it, though he is very loyal to his king who is also his cousin which may have something to do with it.

He rubs his beard, "Hmmmm, Never an easy thing to fix, nor straight forward. If it even can be. Have you thought to get help from a near by city-state?" The man doesn't appear to be Roman but then again nor does he appear to be Greek. The man is far too civilized to be from the land of the barbarians.

A pause, "...There's an idea."

He'd never have thought about it before. "But Entropia and Xylyx have been out of contact for years...it's our leaders fault. They're our enemies...we're at war. technically"

"Why are you at war with them? Perhaps you could try to form an alliance. They help you have the opportunity to elect a leader that you trust and you can have peace." It sounds simple but he understands how difficult such a task would be.

"To tell you the truth I don't know why we're at war with them." Preston says, "It's enough that our leaders say we're in a war."

"Where I am from every man has a say in what goes on in his city-state. When we are at war we then all know why it is so." He may have a slightly biased view on that particular point.

"Democracy has proven itself flawed by my time." Preston says, "It allows too many corrupt individuals to rise to power."

"That is unfortunate. What can you tell me about your situation?"

Uh Oh, he has a new problem to wrap his mind around. Not as entertaining for him as say a mathematical problem but a challenge none the less.

"We are a society that has proven that democracy is faithless." Preston says bluntly, "A world...where emotion has been supressed in favor of logic and reason. " He shakes his head, "Logic and Reason don't kill people."

"Logic and reasons are words that describe thought processes which can be deadly weapons when used properly. Logic and reason are how devices of destruction are made and it may well be a mans hand that wields it but there is nothing that says that there isn't reason or ogic behind it. To protect ourselves against invaders my people will kill those that are trying to kill us. Is that not a reason? Is that not logical?" His words aren't filled with passion or zeal, just a manner of relaying ones thoughts.
