There's a small pile of bags spilling out of a booth. The table is covered with scraps of shiny black wrapping paper and grains of silver glitter. A roll of silver curling ribbon, scissors, and tape complete the set.

Oh yeah. Duo's there too. Away from prying eyes at home. Also keeping a careful eye out for other gift recipients. There will be no peeking before Christmas.

"Plastic lights...?" She blinks at him for a moment, before it clicks. "Oh. Holidays, right?"

"What month is it for you, back home? Kid I know here, it's almost summer for her. Must be weird."

He holds a roll of tape with his teeth, tearing a piece off to stick down one edge of paper.

"Doesn't matter." She smiles faintly, but there's an edge of sorrow to it. "Isn't really something I celebrate back home."

"Ah. Yeah, I get what you mean." Duo gives Max a tiny smile. "This is the first year I really get to. So I hope it turns out okay. I really got no idea what I'm doin'."

"Me, either. I just found out about the presents a couple of days ago. It's going to be...interesting."

Especially considering how she 'shops'...

"Definitely that. I got so much shit. It's great." He beams. "I'm gonna have to leave a pile of stuff with the bar. But not even curious cats get presents before Christmas."

Max smirks slightly. "Bast will be so disappointed." There is a piece of notebook paper tossed towards him, playfully.

"That would be the ball of fluff I saw you carting around before?" He is unaffected by mere paper projectiles!

Of course. The paper is just to distract him from her real plots.

"Yep. That's her. Crazy little furball."

"She's cute. Do you take her home with you?" This is mostly poking to see if Max has a safe home base at the moment, without coming right out and asking.

"She came from my world, actually. One of my friends rescued her and her siblings." She grins faintly. "She does like it here, though."

"I'm not really surprised."

Duo raises an eyebrow. "Should I be getting her catnip for Christmas, or would that make me a bad uncle?"

Max laughs at that. "From her perspective, or from mine? And aren't uncles supposed to corrupt the youth?"

Duo considers this. "Maybe some really annoying jingly toys with catnip inside them."

"I will, of course, have to find some way to reciprocate." She's grinning brightly. Maybe too brightly.
