*Snow feels the gaze, and instinctively moves to shield the children. The guy doesn't seem to be approaching, so she shrugs him off as just another Milliways weirdo and heads for a booth*
He eventually followed Snow and her children, keeping his coldness about him. He wished to inquire about the portal although his motives where hardly ever clear. He stood nearby for awhile before speaking. "How did you... Utalise... That painting?"
"I see." Faust was quickly searching his own mind to gain access to this magical contraption. If it was an enchanted painting, unfortunately for him, there was no way he could break in or steal access.
*Snow's years of experiance in dealing with the more deadly Fables are paying off, as she remains entirely calm* Sorry, I can't think of any way I could help you with it. I doubt there'd be anything there that would interest you, regardless.
Faust begins to lose interest, now realising that he was NOT going to worm any secret out of her. Perhaps her children? No. She'd block him in a slit second. Mothers are like that.
Rose is already at the bar when Snow arrives, so she offers a polite wave from the bar, but when she sees a man watch them, then approach (http://www.livejournal.com/community/milliways_bar/1012315.html?thread=36224603#t36224603)? She's quick to detach from any other conversation and make her way over.
"Hey squirts," is Rose's greeting to her neice and nephew, as she offers a big grin and ruffles Millie's hair affectionately. She has one thumb looped through a belt loop, the other hand holding a beer as she rudely butts into the conversation, which is (of course) her forte. "'Ey, Sis," is offered to Snow, with a bit of a Look that reads 'I've got your back.' Rose winds up placing herself somewhat between the kids and the guy who reminds her (in look and attitude) of her ex-fiance, Bluebeard.
Faust ignores Rose. He's quite good at that. And continues to stare coldly at Snow. He was keenly interested in anything remotely chemical or magical and now the painting had caught his interest. He was at a conundrum.
He attempted to begin probing Snow's mind for some secret to gaining access to the painting ((And I'll leave it up to Snow-mun whether he's successful in actually gaining entrance to Snow's mind, let alone the painting. I won't have him follow any of this through, I don't want to tread on any more toes than is possible.))
Rose notices that she's being ignored and might normally find that to be a good thing (this guy's creepy, after all) but the fact that he keeps eyeing his sister is making her nervous.
"Say," she says, addressing Faust, apparently, "You look familiar. No, really, just give me a minute to put my finger on it..." She seems to be racking her brain, doing it a way that's probably designed to be annoying. "Oh! You look like this guy I used to date! Big into wife-killing." She smirks, expression extra-cheesy. "You're not from New York, are you? I'll start locking my door."
Does she know what she's saying? Probably not. Just trying to get his attention off of Snow.
Faust turns his icey gaze upon snow. He starts working his black magic. "Doctor Johann Georg Faust." Then he follows those words through with a few mental projections. "Locking the door wouldn't stop me. You have no idea what lengths I've gone to and what lengths I will go to."
Rose narrows her eyes at Faust. "Where we come from," she points out, "Threatening people isn't exactly the way to kick off an introduction. Though you get ten points for effort, Herr Doktor." Her teeth are gritted, and the hand clenching the beer bottle has gone a bit white-knuckled.
Yeah, she hasn't been a high-ranking Fable long enough to get more than the prep work for mental blocks (that and she's been too lazy to have them installed), so she's just trying to tough it out. Anything that keeps attention off Snow and the kids is fine by the somewhat battle-scarred Rose.
He began to probe again. She could probably feel his cold fingers inside her head. Looking at memories, tugging old emotions and gazing with his cold mind's eye into her secrets. He wasn't even looking at her. Of course, he would do nothing with the information that he found unless he found something interesting. But feeling in a bad mood, he managed to 'rip' Rose's name from her mind. It wasn't a comfortable process but it's a great way to find things out. And by rip, I mean forcibly view/take the information.
Rose grits her teeth and narrows her eyes to the point of them being nearly closed. Yes, on a scale of one to ten? This entire experience is Really Freaking Disturbing! With no formal training to resist, her life is an open book: all her years as a Fable, the recent Battle of Fabletown, the people she's known and watched die.
But although Rose has been to the other side of the portrait, she was incredibly drunk at the time Snow led her through, and therefore has no idea how to get there on her own.
Finaly, the sound of his dark laughter echoed in her mind as he released her from his grip. His laughter was a strange thing to hear, considering Faust only knows two emotions: Icy-blank and Angry. He doesn't use angry enough for it to really qualify as an emotion but his mun has a nifty icon for it.
*fortunately, Fabletown is no stranger to those with mental abilities such as those, and Snow, as a high-ranking member of the government, has been prepared with strong mental blocks. Snow gets a minor headache, but Faustus is entirely unable to probe her mind*
He is officially blocked from her mind and realises he's now beggining to play with fire. His face and demeanor does not change, however. He hints with body language a little towards Snow's children. Do they have powers as well? Can their minds be protected?
*Snow's glare becomes more venemous when he indicates the children. Words and the icon are insufficient to properly describe this. Hrm. If you know Fables, think what she'd look like in the scene where she regains control over the Farm if someone decided to mention the dwarves.*
*The kids, meanwhile, having been blocked from view by thier mother and aunt, have snuck off to safety*
*Snow's voice is icy* I think you should leave now.
Rose, for reasons that may seem unclear, suddenly shakes her head as though to clear it, even as the bottle she was holding slips out of her hand and clatters to the floor. Though it doesn't break, it falls to the side and some beer sloshes out.
"Sorry," the redhead mutters as she quickly stoops and snatches it up. She straightens and scowls at Faust. "I think my sister's right," she says. Though the recent attack (http://www.livejournal.com/community/milliways_bar/1012315.html?thread=36235867#t36235867) on her mind has managed to steal some of the bravado out of her voice.
Rose gives a quick nod and heads hastily for more populated parts of the bar, to check on the kids and possibly sit down for a few minutes to collect her thoughts and wait for her headache to subside.
Michael started edging toward the conversation the moment he saw the manaflows between the stranger and Snow White. When he heard the new arrival introduce himself as Georg Johann Faust, he quickened his pace. Now, as the archetype of dealing with the devil turns his attention to Millie and Wade, Michael puts a hand on Faust's shoulder.

The painting's enchanted so that only those who are permitted can use it.
