While Ingary sleeps, Howl quietly sets foot into the tavern again. It's Christmas, after all, and though he's not been here on many occasions there are two people who've been in his thoughts.

And since the season's been so good to him, he's brought gifts. He looks around and doesn't see his mischievous friend whose name he's never got, but that doesn't matter; there seem to be a great many gifts waiting for people at the bar itself and so he sets this one down along with the others. Clearly, it's the thing to do.

Mischief's gift is a rare goldleaf volume from The Apprentice Wizard Series called Elementals and Mischief: An Historical Perspective. The cover also proclaims now fully illustrated! and though he's quite certain there's nothing that his friend needs less than this volume, Howl's never believed that there's a better time of year for frivolity than Christmas.

He does, however, see the young lady called Stella.

Howl wonders if she can see him, too. He moves to her side.
