(no subject)

The door in the side of the Firehouse must be feeling pretty sad and neglected by now. This is the third time that a slender brass pole has appeared in Milliways only to deliver a parapsychologist from some other building's second floor.

Ray Stantz- he loves the pole.

*ahem* Anyway, there's a Ghostbuster in the bar in his civvies, and he's getting himself some lunch, so have at.

And a Magius is there to say hello.

"Good morn, Doctor."

He looks a lot less imposing and more elan then the last time Ray may have seen him.

Ray and Magius haven't really interacted since... oh, gosh. Probably not since Bar was cramming Sumerian down Ray's throat.

"Morning, um... Magius, right?" Ray says after some thought. "Or is it Giles? You look a little different."

"It's Magius, but a little different."

he smiles a slightly bitter smile.

"The magic is gone. I am a completely normal human now."

"Oh," says Ray. "That must've stung, huh? Well- welcome to the club... how did it happen?"

He shakes his head. Stung?

"It was a quest. I angered the Gods, and in the end, this was the final price."

He smiles wryly.

"Things are a bit odd to the eye now."

Ray is not nearly so good at the vocabulary choices as other people would like, sometimes.

"Oootch. Okay, that has to've been distressing. Is there any way of getting it back? Some other quest to prove yourself again or something? And which gods?"

"I dont know. Right now, the Gods arent talking and I am Bound, for the first time since arriving. Which is ironic, since now, for the first time, I actually wan to leave."

He smiels wryly.

"My Gods, the Gods of Krynn."

"Ah. Nobody I know, then," Ray says. "At least, unless they appear in the Spates Catalog, which I doubt. I mostly just stick with the gods of Earth. So you don't know if this is a permanent condition, then?"

He shakes his ehad.

"No, I do not. It wasnt said. Merely that i had to give it up for the quest to conclude, with a hearty helping of Doom if I didnt."

Yes, Magius has been around Billy too much, some days.

"Well... okay," Ray says. "What was the quest for? Should I even ask?"

"A series of Crystals, all part of an ancient artifact. I angered them, so they sent me to collect the pieces, with a little help. there were challenges along the way, each bound to one of the Seven Deadly Sins."

he sounds weary as he tells of it.

Ray blinks.

"I didn't know the concept of the seven deadly sins existed outside mainstream Christianity."

Magius smiles, his eyes glinting.

"Unfortunately, they do exist as seperate entities on some worlds, including my own and the world I went to for the quest. As I understand it, they are the creation of evil evoked from the reasoning mortals at the dawn of time."

"Mm." Ray shakes his head. "Lovely. Just lovely. Was there anyone else along on this quest of yours?"

He nods, hesitating for a moment.

"Amanda, and Bruce Banner also went with me."

Another shadow crosses his face briefly.

Ray nods. "Did they get back okay, at least?" he says, clueless to the end.

he sighs.

"theye ach paid a price as well. forgiver me, but I dont feel free to say what they paid, as for each it was personal. But in each case, it ws something as dear to them as my magic to me."

His words are bleak.

Ray winces. "Oh, man..."

Magiius looks at Ray and sighs.

"Forgiver me Doctor. I have brought this sadness to you and now it affects you as well. I should not have burdened you with it."

he bows his head.

Ray shakes his head. "No, it's okay," he says. "I've heard some pretty nasty stuff along the way. One more issue isn't gonna tip me over the edge or anything. I'm sorry for all your sakes, though."

Magius still feels somewhat guilty.

"Thank you. I have always been tsught to keep going and to look forward to the future. I can only try to keep going."

"Good luck with that," Ray says sympathetically. "Got any plans for how you're going to approach things?"

He shrugs slightly.

"I am not sure. I am still trying to make a plan. First of all, I will strengthen my body and defenses that way. I will try to learn other ways of getting along and of protecting myself and those I care about. After that... I will try to adjust. To walking a normal life."

Ray nods. "Like I said, welcome to the club. You get used to it after a few years. I can introduce you to some technology if you like, since that usually does a pretty good job of filling in the blanks for stuff like magic or natural weaponry."

Magius blinks, then nods.

"I would be most thankful. I am afraid technology and I are barely on speaking terms."

he grins faitnly.

"This will teach me to neglect any area of knowledge."

"Well, I myself am going to be pestering some of the people around here- and back home, most likely- for hand-to-hand combat lessons fairly soon. As in unarmed. I can handle myself reasonably well with certain weapons, but I'd kind of like to have a nonlethal option if somebody jumps me and doesn't intend to kill me, just take my stuff, you know?"

Pause.

"Actually, maybe you don't- the whole magic thing- um, sorry."

Magius nods.

"I have much to learn and dont worry about it, Doctor. I know that I am lacking in a lot of referrents. Thankfully, one of the things not reliant upon magic, is my learning, and I am a professional student. I hope to learn as much as I can."

He conmsiders for a moment.

"If you find a good hand to hand teacher here, please let me know. It would behoove me to know such myself."

"Sure, no problem," Ray says. "And if you hit one before I do, point me that way too, if you wouldn't mind?"

"It will be my pleasure."

Magius bows his head to Ray.

"I think I will go and try to get in some time outside before it snows again. I hope you have a wonderful day, Doctor."

"You too, sir," Ray says. "At least, as far as you're able."

"Thank you. I will see you anon."

And he turns and heads for the back door.
