Mirai stands before the door, her courage sufficiently mustered to try life again.
Most of her things remain up in her room, a more certain safety than whatever waits on the other side. She holds a smaller bag of a few clothes and other small essentials on her shoulder, a warm winter coat swallowing her up. Her hand curves around the doorknob and pulls it open quick before she loses her nerve.
But once she steps through to the other side, her phone chirps. She digs in her pocket, fingers trembling. She clicks open the new text and, upon reading it, steps backwards into the bar once more. She crouches down close to the floor and cups the phone in her hands, the February air chilling her fingers as she reads the words over and over.
The Nase family knows she left.
