When one gets caught up in a project it's easy to lose track of time. Stacker Pentecost didn't so much lose track of time- he's always, always, always got a clock and a calendar in his head, both counting inexorably down- as he put aside any particular urge to deal with people outside those necessary to get the kwoon project finished.

It's finished now.

Shower, first; change of clothes to something a little more officially PPDC, next; then whatever analog the Bar's kitchens can concoct for the output of Wo Hop's dan dan noodles back in Hong Kong, because dammit, Stacker deserves some celebratory horrible food.

After Stacker Pentecost told Chuck about building a kwoon...

Well, he realized he had to practice, and enlisted the aid of Ysalwen, Enjolras, and Shephard.

Chuck peers out of the hallway.

No viewscreen.

He sidles out, mock casual, and sits carefully on the stool.

"Can I, uh. Have a Coke?"

Stacker's been making plans of several kinds for a while now, but ever since a certain recent conversation, one of the plans in particular has come to the fore. Might as well get started on it.

"Bar," says the Marshal, "I've been given permission to set up a proper training room somewhere other than the staff-only hallway. I'm going to need a recommendation for which one to start with, and then I'm going to need a number of supplies-"

He passes the Bar an envelope.

"And I'll also need you to contact Ranger Hansen the next time he comes up for air. It'd do him some good to get out of the car park."

Searching the garage has gone on quite long enough, as far as Stacker is concerned. He's found Jaegers, and there are probably more down there, but for now he needs to start planning for making proper use of those machines. Which means, eventually, looking for pilots- but he's seen what passes for a gym here, and he's going to need better facilities first.

Assuming he can find the right person to talk to about that, anyway.

[After this comes this.]

Ratonhnhaké:ton is seated in front of the fireplace tonight.

It has only been a precious few hours since he came in from the burning, but he could not tell you that. Everything feels hollow, empty. He does not think his legs could support his weight if he stood, and yet they do, and propel him forward all the same as if they have minds of their own.

It will take time before his wounds heal, but they fare better now that they are covered.

He stares into the fire, transfixed.

The conversation with Voodoo the other day gave Stacker reason to look a little more closely around the gym, and to realise that it honestly didn't look much like the sort of thing one ought to be relying upon for more than a handful of kinds of exercise. He's been thinking about that.

(There's a lot of car park to search, even with Ysalwen's assistance and holographic layouts. It gives one time to think.)

Since he's searching for Jaegers, and finding them- albeit very slowly- he's going to need pilots for them. And if he's going to get pilots for them, he's going to have to evaluate them and train the successful ones, and if he's going to do that he's going to need a proper space for it. So when he surfaces from the half-hidden lift, he goes straight to the Bar and composes a note.

ExpandIt's for the Barman. Or someone of that nature, anyway. )

Having done this, and having seen the note disappear, Stacker heads for a seat with a view of the Window; there's enough of them.

Voodoo's in-Bar tonight for two reasons.

One is PT. The denizens of post-nuclear America are not the merciful kind.

(Just follow the angry-sounding Spanish hip-hop, Irish punk rock, and American thrash metal to the gym. It won't be hard.)

Another is resupply. Bar won't give him ammunition or weapons, but he has his room for that.

(We're not kidding when we say it doubles as an armory.)

She's good about repairing and supplementing the non-lethal portions of his kit, however. Helmet, tac vest, rations, sights, suppressors, et cetera.

Catch him in the gym or by the bar.

Stacker's been in the car park for some time, mostly corroborating the material he got from that young mechanic fellow with what he's seen in person. Nothing against the man, but apparently nearly all the vehicles can be opened and started with a minimum of fuss, so things stand a fair chance of not being parked where they were last left.

On the bright side, nobody's attempted to take either Brawler Yukon or Tacit Ronin out yet, for reasons he considers obvious.

He's going to need to talk to Ysalwen, and probably Dejah Thoris, about further explorations. For now he's come up from below in search of a shower and something to eat.
neverbelievedintheend: Idris Elba with his right side turned to the camera, wearing a blue greatcoat, flanked by soldiers (surrounded by soldiers)
[personal profile] neverbelievedintheend
The voyage into the Bar's car park with Dejah Thoris proved decidedly fruitful. Stacker has confidence that future trips, potentially with assistance from other sources, stand a good chance of being worthwhile.

However, just because they were able to locate a Jaeger- among other things- doesn't give him a license to slack off. He may not be medically safe to ever put on a drivesuit again, but now more than ever it's important for him to keep up his fighting form; if they're actually able to get Tacit Ronin or Brawler Yukon operational, people are going to need to learn how to use them...

So ignore the attire in the icon, because he's acquired a more appropriate set of workout clothing from the Bar and is headed for the gym. It may not be much of a place compared to the practice facilities at the Shatterdome, but it'll do.
neverbelievedintheend: Idris Elba from behind, wearing a buttondown blue shirt (from behind)
[personal profile] neverbelievedintheend
In any other place, determining the extent of the underground car park wouldn't be a particularly big undertaking.

In any other place the car park wouldn't have a Jaeger in it.

"I don't know if this is where I'm supposed to look for the information or not," says Stacker Pentecost to the Bar, "but if there's a printed layout for the car park I'd like a copy. And if there's not I'd like some kind of idea of just how long it's likely to take me to investigate-"

A napkin appears.

"What."

Today, the punching bag in the bar's gym is getting quite a workout.

Pentecost sent out an order a few minutes ago- to Becket, to the Hansens, and to his daughter- to meet him in one of the preflight rooms at the Shatterdome for an emergency meeting. There is, at best, a week left to change things. They don't have time for nonsense.

So of course Milliways decided to ambush him.

The door won't open- he's just tried, twice- so he's going to get a drink, and then spend some time glaring. It won't do much good, of course, but somehow he doubts they'll appreciate what he'd prefer to do to the door.

When he gets tired of glaring he'll go find the gym and a practice staff, but for now, Stacker Pentecost is in the Bar.

July 4th was always a holiday of mixed emotions for Peggy. It felt strange to be back home without him. He was one of her best friends and the memories still lingered with the sadness. She managed to find her way to the Bar once again, though and with that came some relief. She moved over to Bar and ordered a cup of iced tea. She smiled as she took a sip and murmured a thank you to Bar. This was quite the strange place still but it was a refuge.

She picked up her glass and moved to a nearby table. Entirely botherable and distractable.

It is, in the Woman's executive opinion, too damn hot.

Not that she'd put it like that, and not that she doesn't encounter such temperatures every year, but her judgement stands.

And here, at least, it is a little cooler than in the Valley.

So there is a woman in a fur coat flopped on a rock in front of the water, taking the breeze and enjoying weather she can bend to her will without destroying the weather-system of half the Himalayas.

This is all very vexing, really. She would like to go inside.

But... time to cool off, first.

Outside the door...

When the front door opens, the man who steps in definitely gives off that 'career military' vibe, even as he stops just inside the threshold and tightens his grip on the duffel bag he has slung over his shoulder.

This is not his room - he's not even seen his room, yet, but he's pretty damn sure that this isn't it. Tendo probably put one of the lower officers up to the prank, trick the old guy into thinking the door that leads to one of the off-duty lounges is actually his bunk. He sets his face into a scowl, turns on his heel, and nearly walks straight into the wall.

(There had been a door there a minute ago.

He is way too damn tired for this bullshit right now.)

And so help Chuck, if the boy is in on this as well.

Still scowling, Herc turns back around and heads for the bar. Might as well see what sort of supply this Dome has available. It might help him sleep tonight.

[OOC: Herc has just arrived at the Hong Kong Shatterdome, so please don't spoil him for what happens in canon...especially if any pup has already met Chuck. Thank you! I'm in crackchat, young scurlock, if you have any questions. Open through the weekend.]

"That looks like a glitter bomb went off in a blender," Steph says, peering at Molly's milkshake. "...I want one!"

"So ask for one," Molly retorts, grinning. "I don't think Bar, like, plays favourites with them... Well, not much.

Do you wanna get one too?" she adds, glancing at the kid in the oversized Red Army threads.

Natasha, only very recently converted to the idea of milkshakes in general, just eyes them. But she does order a very plain chocolate one.

Dejah Thoris has had a long and tiring day at the Academy, and she'd been looking forward to having a quiet evening meal.

Instead, she's standing in some sort of tavern, looking around like a child who's stumbled into a toy store.  Her wide-eyed gaze fixes on the Window, first and foremost, and she gravitates to it, fascinated.

"The gravitational forces alone... Sweet Issus be praised."  She looks around, baffled that so many of the patrons, in their many and diverse species, are all sitting about, eating and drinking, like there isn't a galactic scale apocalypse happening on the other side of what appears to be nothing more than a pane of glass.

"What is this place?"

She'll get around to asking why there's a bar in her room in a moment.  Transdimensional bilocation is a subject she's had passing experience with.

[Not-Really-OOM: After dying, Chuck wakes up outside and run into a guy who looks like his favorite coworker (<--that was sarcasm). It goes about as well as might be expected.]

The back door opens, revealing a guy who's leaning against it. He's white, in his early 20s, and has some blood on his cheek transferred from a wound to his head. (There's the start of a bruise blossoming on his other cheek, which he hasn't noticed yet.) His eyes are mostly squinted shut.

And he's wearing light green, futuristic-looking armor.

Chuck tries to open his eyes slightly further, so he can see into the bar, wincing at the light. To hell with this.

Christmas was quiet this year.

New Year's was quiet this year.

Stacker Pentecost does not trust this, and is watching the Pacific Ocean ever more closely. Just because the Breach hasn't disgorged anything doesn't mean it's closed; every nation in the world can detect the thing's presence.

(He had a nosebleed today. Mako spotted it before anyone else could so much as notice. He took appropriate measures.)

2023 is not going to be a good year; he can feel it in his bones.

(If he is very lucky, the Metharocin will continue to work this year, too.)

Right now what he needs is a drink- nothing strong, just one of the oyster stouts they can't get in Alaska any more- and a chance to go over the dossiers of every kaiju defeated since 2013. There has to be something that can indicate what to expect from the Breach next.
