"We'll both make mistakes," he says, with a smile.

"And that's all right."

Because they'll learn to fix them.

His tumb traces idly over her cheekbone.

"You won't laugh at me?" and she's mostly teasing, before the hand in his hair pulls his head closer for another kiss.

He thinks about this, or at least tries to, before he is distracted by her mouth and the taste of her, and what may have originally been intended as a short, sweet sort of kiss deepens into something else entirely before he pulls away again.

"I won't laugh at you," he promises.

He may laugh with her. But probably not at her.

Laughing with her is good.

It's at least half the fun.

Lucy's breath is a bit shakier than it was before the kiss, but her smile is content. "Good. That's all right, then."

He smiles at her, and brushes a lock of wayward hair from her face.

"Any other questions?"

She grins and shakes her head. "No. That was the last one."

"Good," he says, grinning back. "I'm not sure how many more of them I could have answered. You're very distracting, you know."

"Oh, am I?" With more than a bit of mischief in her eyes. "I could stop, if it bothers you."

"Now, Lu," he says, sternly, "don't be putting words in my mouth. I said nothing about it bothering me, did I?"

He certainly doesn't seem bothered.

"Oh, do forgive me, Caspian, please?" Definite mischief. "For that and because I rather like distracting you and think I'll do it often."

"Who am I to refuse such a plea?" he laughs.

"And rest assured I will almost certainly forgive you for any distraction you feel is neccesary." Shaking his head, "I suppose if we do get a dragon, you'll be taking it's side in everything, won't you?"

He must be terribly distracted, to not have noticed that he said we instead of you.

"I'm comforted by that." But she does notice, and her grin could light up the room. "Are you planning on fighting often with it?"

This is not, strictly speaking, an answer, of course, but that's a minor detail.

"Now, Lu," he replies, after being momentarily dazzled by the grin, "you know I've never fought with a dragon in my life.

"They all reminded me too much of Eustace."

She might be getting eyed a little warily for the not!answer.

Lucy laughs, quietly. "Then there won't be a side to take, will there?"

"No, I suppose not."

He considers this for a moment.

"Er...how likely is it that there's a dragon in our future?"

She contemplates this for a moment.

"About exactly as likely as however likely it is that Puff becomes a mother. Adam looked rather determined that Alanna would not keep any more dragons."

"I can imagine," Caspian says, thinking back to his conversation with Edmund.

And though he only met Adam the once, all those months ago, he can easily believe it.

"Just give me fair warning."

He might then shake his head, and mutter "dragons" under his breath, but there's a laugh there too.

"I promise that you will be the first person to know after I do," solemnly. "So you can hide your clothing, and all."

"It's only fair," he says, just as solemnly.

"And anyway, it'd probably be a while yet, wouldn't it?"

Ah, optimism.

"Yes," grinning and kissing the tip of his nose. "I'm certain."

It makes the world go round.

He looks rather ridiculously relieved.

"That is excellent news." And he grins back.

"Not that it wouldn't be a pleasure, but really I'd rather have some time with just you before there are any dragons thrown into the mix. Volatile creatures, you know, dragons. Cause no end of trouble."

Lucy deadpans, "As thrilled as I am with the prospect of an infant fire-breathing, clothing-eating lizard with a jealousy streak, I think I'd like to have as much time with just you as possible first as well."

"Thank the Lion," Caspian says, and doesn't even try to hide his relief, collapsing back into his chair with a laugh.

"Well, that's sorted, then."

A moment of consideration.

"Unfortunate that you hadn't one in Narnia. It might have been even more effective than throwing water at overzealous suitors."

She's looks more than a bit amused, though the last comment gets gets him a tongue stuck out in his direction. "It was only the one!"

"Yes?"

He only lifts an eyebrow.

"You never did anything to any of the others, did you?"
