There's a Carl in the bar.

Wary, somewhat nervous-He tried to call Jack and-surprise the phone was busy.

So he's come here looking for him.
But he's up for finding anybody.

"Would you like some?" Kris asks, she can always get some more food later. Kris then blinks at the card and takes it. "Kristine Kochanski."

Carl waves a hand, "Far be it from me to steal somebody else's dinner. besides, I'm sure my wife's got food waiting for me back in my world." He twitches at that, "Millie's rather overprotective of the idea of our family continuing to eat what with the depression on."

He shrugs.

Kris hides a smile at that twitch. "Depression?" It sounded vaguely familiar, from one of her history lessons she thinks. "I don't mean to be rude."

"Black Tuesday-or wednesday-hell I've completely forgot." Carl shakes his head, "Stock market went down ta zero-people lost millions-sucides and the like. We're all poorer then dirt now."

"Oh." Yes that was in a history lesson she'd attended. Sounded like a day with one of her old shipmates, except for the poor part or the stock market crashing. "I didn't know." She feels slightly stupid for not remembering.

"What?" Carl raises a brow, "Don' be upset about it. Not your fault-nobody's fault except the fat cats on wallstreet." he shrugged easily, "Dare I ask what time you're from?"

His general tone is amiable, indeed, he's grinning.

She smiles as he seems fine with it all. Now there was a question. "Three million years into the future from the 25th century." Though possibly more, she ponders.

"....Wow."

what does one say to that?

"....obviously we musta come outta the depression huh?" Carl's voice is weak.

"Yes." Kris nods. There were a few more hiccups on the way but safer not to mention any of them. She doesn't want to mention the fact she's stuck in deep space.

"Good to know on that."

Carl pauses, "Earth...Earth still it's usual ole' self?"

"I don't know." She pauses how to phrase it correctly. "Haven't been home in a while." That was nice a vauge. "But I'm sure it is." If it's still there.

Carl shrugs, "Can't help it if ya don't know. I guess you..."

He can't fathom why anyone would want to be off the planet-but still.

"Do things? off the planet?"

Carl's all about learning.

Kris is all for teaching. She smiles. "Yes. I'm on a mining ship, Red Dwarf"

"A mining ship?" Carl frowns, "Whaddya mine? diamonds? coal?"

"Ore and such." Though she's never actually had anything to do with all that. "I'm navigation officer so I've never actually mined anything."
