Charlie is a little hungover, which should explain the pot of coffee, big glass of water and pancakes.

The secretive little smile can be explained by how he got the hangover.

He tosses a set of shiny toy keys to Charlie.

"Yes, they really do."

Charlie laughs as he catches the keys, and jangles them for Joshua. The baby grabs, kicking his heels.

Richard smiles as he watches them together.

"We really need to bring the boys in more. Don't think it's good for them to be so isolated."

"There's lots of kids to play with, too. Megan always has a good time when she comes in."

Fingerpainting the walls with chocolate, for instance.

"Oh, I haven't seen Meggie in ages. Bet she's all grown up now."

Chocolate murals are an important part of the learning process.

"She'll be three soon," he says with a nod. "She's going to have Liam's height, I think."

True, but how about learning to swear from an angel?

"So she'll be taller than you in five minutes?"

That's just Fucking Milliways.

Charlie sticks out his tongue at him. "Love you too, Dick."

He grabs Charlie in a head-lock and rubs knuckles over the top of his head.

Joshua squeals and giggles.

"Gah! I've got the child!" He wrestles, trying not to squirm too much with the armful of falcon-baby.

He takes Joshua and sets him carefully down on the hearthrug with the toy keys....and then tackles Charlie again.

. . . the small and cute thing backfires on Charlie sometimes.

He yelps and squirms and tries to fend him off, but . . . yes. So very ticklish.

(And he kind of likes it, for all his protests. Cheeky monkey.)

Richard is quite ticklish as well and is doing his share of squirming and yelping, but he's laughing more than he has in a while, so that's fine.

Eventually he gives up and collapses panting on the floor.

Charlie leans back against the booth and grins at him. "You're daft, you know that?"

"I have been told that on occasion. And yet, you lot keep putting up with me."

And that means a lot to Richard.

"Being daft makes one interesting," Charlie says airily.

"Then we must be the most fascinating buggers on earth."

Charlie laughs. "Aren't we just?"
