Uh oh. Max is plotting something again.

Or at least that's what the blueprints and assorted sheafs of paper scattered around her would suggest. She's biting her lower lip, a nervous habit. Every few moments she glances up. She might be looking for someone, or just keeping an eye on things. It's anyone's guess, really.

She's definitely up for distraction.

Max nods once. "Mmmhmm. There's only one problem."

"Which is?"

He seems better having heard this.

"Only one I know was also one of Gaunt's - the girl's old master's - guests. There might be others here, but I haven't encountered them."

A slight twitch.

"Aha. That... could be a problem."

"Considering he used the girl to keep his victims from dying so he could continue torturing them?" She smiles mirthlessly. "Yeah. There might be a few issues."

His head touches the tbale. Not in submission, but in thought.

"I might be able to cobble up the same thing,w ith magic."

She tilts her head to one side, eyeing him curiously. "Wouldn't that be risky?"

"No riskier then anything else would be. It's alla risk."

And he hates the risk, as much as he loves the thrill.

She adores both, on some level.

As long as the risk is only to her.

"How much risk?"

"I could fry my brain, helping her."

No harm there, right? Already dead.

Depends on who you ask. Max would be inclined to disagree.

"We'll find another way."

"If you insist."

He's very giving of himself.

"I do." It's quiet, determined. "It's not worth the risk."

"All right."

He rubs his temple.

"Fuck nuggets."

"There'll be something, somewhere."

She lowers her chin into the palm of one hand, studying him intently. "Why would you even be willing to risk that?"

He blinks up at her.

"Why wouldn't I? What good is a life not used for other people?"

She opens her mouth, then closes it again, huffing softly.

"I don't think I'll ever get you..."

...Because she's never done anything that might well be suicidal. Really.

He opens his arms.

"You just have to say the word, and I'm yours."

She glares at him. Which is spoiled by the fact that she's rather obviously trying not to laugh.

"You know what I mean!"

He pouts.

"Yeh, guess I do."

She blinks once, giving him an odd look. "...You're pouting."

"You didn't take me."

A legitimate argument.

Awww, look at those big, innocent brown puppy-dog eyes! "Take you where?"

Look at those clear blue inncoent eyes!

"Anywhere..."

He probably wins at the innocent game.

She laughs. "Awww. Don't tell me you're easy."
