Sometimes you feel like you're going to go stir-crazy if you're in too large a space.

Besides, somebody's got to make sure Niska's not prowling around the bar.

And Kaylee's in charge. For now, anyway.

So she's at a table near the middle of the room with a cup of coffee -- untouched -- and a pensive expression.

"I'm watching," River says softly.

But she slants a considering glance at the booth below her.

"Suit yourself."

Kaylee's attention goes back to her coffee cup.

There are multiple reasons she's not going to bother cajoling. They have to do with frustration, and worry, and guilt.

River's glance at her is sharper, and worried.

And guilty.

After a moment, she ducks her head, and begins to make her way down to the floor.

There's a scrim of oil on the surface of her coffee; it catches the light.

River's wearing boots today. It means her footsteps are quiet, all things considered, but they're hardly silent.

The bar's noisy, though.

Doesn't matter.

Voice and expression are a little apologetic when Kaylee looks up and says, "Didn't have to."

"Okay," River says softly. The choice of words is ambiguous -- it is River, after all -- but her tone is faintly apologetic too, and more strongly reassuring.

Kaylee fidgets a little.

And looks up.

"As long as you're down...want to...?"

A hesitant nod at an empty chair.

[river_meimei]

River smiles a little, and nods.

When she sits down, it's on the floor, leaning her head against the chair and looking up at Kaylee.

Conventions are overrated anyhow.

Kaylee's smile is hidden in her cup of coffee.

River's wearing her brown coat. It has big pockets.

There's a stuffed lemur poking out of one. It's very fuzzy, and a little bit goggle-eyed.

River tucks a leg closer under herself, and leans back against the chair. It's wedged against a table leg, luckily, and so doesn't move.
