River is perched on a barstool, happily sipping... something. It's very pink. And fizzy, and equipped with a curly straw and a small plastic monkey.

Even the monkey is pink.

(River's wearing brown -- her long coat -- and shades of yellow. The contrast of colors is something Kaylee and Wash would both approve of.)

Raven grins, fingers still tangled in thread.

The monkey climbs around on the straw very nimbly.

"You are wanting to hold it, perhaps?"

"I'm very friendly," River assures him earnestly. It's directed at the monkey at least as much as at Raven.

Raven laughs quietly.

"I do not doubt it, I think."

Apparently neither does the monkey, as it clambers down the straw and over toward River.

River beams at it, and holds very very still except to (slowly) offer the monkey a hand.

The monkey grabs her thumb and swings itself up, scampering from palm to wrist to elbow. River's clothes are very good for handholds. Well, pawholds.

Raven grins.

"It is still plastic, I think. It is very difficult to startle."

"Durable," River informs the monkey solemnly. "You can conquer the floorboards."

It pauses in its ascent of her coatsleeve to wave its tail at her. Possibly this is a comment.

Raven peers down at them.

"Scrubbing would not go badly, I do not think."

The monkey blows a tiny raspberry at Raven with its tiny plastic tongue.

River giggles.

Raven is shocked and horrified.

Really.

He returns the gesture.

Is the monkey going just sit there and take that?

No way!

It is, apparently, going to make a determined attempt to scale to the top of River's head.

She sits still, and tries not to giggle.

Raven shakes his head as the monkey, about halfway up River's hair, begins swinging to and fro.

Hair is slippery, man.

The monkey is entirely distracted.

It can swing! And jump, and catch more hair, and swing some more!

River winces very slightly when the monkey pulls too hard, but otherwise just grins at it.

Raven is, perhaps, both amused and bemused.



And busy animating the monkey.

Who settles itself comfortably around River's ear.

It is like a new kind of jewelry!

Only in plastic!

Is River likely to complain?

Nope. Not in the slightest.

The monkey is not complaining either. River is comfortable.

And Raven is grinning too brightly to be bothered by much of anything.

Though it is likely one or the other will get restless before long.

So it goes.
