Today Archie is not on duty. Today he is sprawled happily on one of the couches with his tea and a book. He looks mighty comfy. He looks like he might enjoy some company.

"She wants it fancier, bigger, lots of flowers... I don't know..."

Archie's expansive gestures are amusing Patrick.

He is giggling quite a lot, little hands flailing. Sharpe looks down at him, distracted from wedding talk.

"Having fun there, lad?"

Archie grins and traces a few runes in the air, another trick Svava's taught him, and little balls of light condense and bob gently in front of the boy.

Patrick squeals, looking wide-eyed at the lights and reaching out to bat at them.

Sharpe chuckles, lifting him so he can reach them more easily.

They bob obligingly, glowing with soft light. One might see how they would be almost romantic floating around. Too bad they only last a few minutes.

Archie laugs at the lad, almost as delighted as he is.

He's captivated, all his attention on the lights.

Sharpe grins at Archie. "Thanks."

And as they start to fade, Archie conjours another batch.

"My pleasure, my friend. To be honest, I'd never thought to use them quite like that before."

"Well, it works."

He grins.

He laughs, still watching Patrick.

"True. I should remember that for the future."

Because he'll be the world's greates uncle to all his friend's children. Laerke's a little old for dancing lights to amuse her quite so much.

"Where'd you learn to do that, anyway?"

"Svava taught me her rune magic not long after we met. The first time I made them work was to heal her when she came back from Ragnarok."

Magical inspiration born of despreation.

"Can anyone learn it, then?" he asks curiously.

"Aye. She's taught several people since she's been here. I used to keep the litttle notebook that she gave me in my pocket of my jacket."

He's not wearing his jacket, so no notebook.

"Maybe I'll ask her to teach me a bit."

It could come in useful.

He grins widely.

"I think she'd be more than happy to."

Sharpe grins. "Thought she might be."

"And, well, it is a good thing to know. It can save lives, just that little healing spell."

"You said. After Ragnarok, aye?"

He glances over at the Observation windows.

"Aye. She was in a bad way when she came through."

She's not the only one he's heald since, and hers wasn't the only one whose life has been saved by those few runes and the knowledge behind them.

It's a reminder and a reassurance.
