Once upon a time, Mal gave Kaylee a pink iPod mini.

She has joined the ranks of the headphone-wearing masses, on the couch, curled up half-asleep, a book open on her lap. Even if it's bad for the binding.

Think fast, cat.

He purrs at her. It's almost an attack in and of itself, a deep rumbling that could knock china off the shelves if the owner wasn't careful. He rubs his head against her shirt.

First bribe, then flee.

Change of plans: Bribe, then melt.

Ohhhh, yeah.*

He loves the scritching and the purr, if anything, intensifies. His eyes close happily and he settles down into her lap.

Laps are for cats, not for books, you see. Then again, books are places for cats too.

There are two reasons cats have not yet taken over the Multiverse. First, it's hard to get more than two cats doing anyting coherent and cohesive at once.

Secondly, there are just too many pettings and laps and cats are addicted to purring.

This could go on all night, like a duracell commercial. Mr. Q wouldn't mind.

If Mr. Q could talk human, he'd thank her in words. If Kaylee could talk cat, she'd hear pillow talk. All the usual things; how he loves her, how he wants her to have his kittens (shocking, really. Eidelweiss would be hurt if she heard), how he really, really loves her and none of those other fingers really mean anything to him ... anything to keep the petting going.
