Once upon a time, Mal gave Kaylee a pink iPod mini.

She has joined the ranks of the headphone-wearing masses, on the couch, curled up half-asleep, a book open on her lap. Even if it's bad for the binding.

"Nope." Cheerful. "Just...that time of night where you're kinda sleepy and not quite ready to go to bed yet."

Angel grins. "Oh, I know that feeling well. I'm Angel, by the way."

"I'm Kaylee. Nice to meet you."

"Nice to meet you too. Where're you from?"

"Moon called Three Hills, year 2519, 'verse that has Earth in it. What about you?"

"Earth, but... considerably farther back than you. New York, 1997."

"New York? I was there once. Liked it a lot."

"It's an interesting place, all right. Miss it sometimes."
But hey, most of the people who made it home are in the bar, so.

"Dead. Had a while to get used to the idea, though, and this is a hell of a lot more time than I thought I'd end up with. So I figure it works out."

"That's good," says Kaylee sympathetically. "'Specially here -- it's a nice place."

Angel grins. "That it is. And most of the people who made New York home have ended up here, one point or another. Works for everyone."

"Shiny."

It is less than tactful to say are they dead, too? Which is why Kaylee does not.

Angel has not so much run across the future!slang.

A pause for thought, then: "So... did you go to New York in your time, or through someone you met here?" Either's possible, but it strikes Angel as a good idea to check.
