There is a rather stunned looking man standing in the doorway of Milliways. He hasn't seen the place for almost a year and a half and it's ... exactly as he remembered it to be, even if he spent quite a bit of time insisting to himself that it could have been some elaborate hallucination.

At any rate, more about him. His hair is trimmed, though somewhat touseled, and he appears to be wearing a khaki uniform and heavy overcoat of the same colour. The sleeves are rolled up and he is dirty.

Dusty is perhaps a more accurate term. The thick goggles are a hint at what he's just come from - his motor bike is parked just outside in the background.

He is blinking. "Well, this certainly isn't the motor shop."

It's hard to tell if he's really bothered by this. The grin on his face suggests that it is in fact a smaller blessing than a curse.

"Is that so? I find that my 'superiors' in the army don't take it well."

"The ones giving the orders tend not to be the ones carrying them out."

He shrugs. "Sometimes, sometimes not."

"At least," she amends, "I have found that in my country."

He smiles.

"Yes, I suppose it seems that way."

"Seems?"

A curious eyebrow.

"Yes. Well, I know that I followed orders from Allenby, but ... " Sometimes he added things.

"But sometimes they...neglected to tell you certain details which you later filled in?"

A grin.

"Yes, something like that."

"Ah, yes."

And a slow smile.

A nod.

"And you have been Well?"

"Aren't I always?"

"Yes, of course. Where is Aubrey taking you?"

"I'm not quite sure. Italy, I think he said."

"Italy is nice, I suppose."

"I've never been, but he's got a house there."

"It's warm." Which is always nice.

"That's good. I do like being warm."

"Yes, I do know that."

"I imagine you'd remember."

A nod. "I always remember things like that."

He leans against her, quiet.

"The little details?"

Curling her head to listen to his heartbeat.

"Yes."

He is content, for now.
