He sets them up.
He (accidentally) knocks them down.
He tries again.
He sets them up.
He (accidentally) knocks them down.
And Destruction laughs, a little,
(and the table rattles)
and begins to build his card house for a third time.

Or he was.
This one- somehow, he doesn't know how- this one, he knows.

He flashes Quinn the eight of diamonds. And grins.
And sets about steepling the foundation row.
no subject
He knows how it's going to end, but it's the playing-out that matters, right?
no subject
There's a beginning and an end, but there has to be a middle.
He begins to lay cards out on top of the A-framed cards. "I'm really bad at this."
There's a deep, low, humming, buzzing quality to his voice -- almost subconsciously felt -- there are things going on. Change.

Quinn settles down into a nearby chair- carefully, carefully; what little there is doesn't need to be wrecked, not just yet, not by him- and looks over the structure taking shape.
"It's a start," he admits quietly, as he doesn't trust his voice any further than that. "Bit loose, but..."
no subject
A grin. A flash of teeth.
no subject
"Not much," Quinn admits. "Did you want a hand?"
There was a poem, once. Turning and turning in the widening gyre...
no subject
More teeth. He halves the deck and slides one of the halves over.

He works careful and slow, and starts off small. Less to worry about that way, really, when it all gets knocked over and he has to start again. But that'll come when it comes.

Dream is watching the cards. Or the potentiality which the cards fail to live up to. One of these.
no subject
The jack of hearts.
"How's business?"
no subject
Is the measured response, followed by,
"I should point out that I have given Piotr the threat talk. Kitty was not pleased."
Which, in its turn, is followed by,
"I would ask that you stay away from her, in your aspect, for a time. She has suffered too much."
And they share her, in a way. She is Destruction's. She could have been, should have been Dream's.
no subject
Would have, could have, should have.
Dream has always been slow to change.
no subject
Would Destruction like to fight him for Kitty? Really?
"Her world, Destruction."
He says quietly,
"And perhaps Desire. I simply wish her to have a break."
no subject
no subject
He might not answer,
"You may always ask."

1) Del has not seen her favorite brother in a long time.
2) Old habits die hard.
So Delirium rests her chin on the table and stares at the card house.
"It'S, um. Um. NoT StAyInG uP vErY wELl. MaYbE hOnEy WoUlD hElP. Or MuCuS. I DoN'T kNoW."
A bracelet uncoils from her wrist, stretches, and sheds its metal skin to show a newt that begins to tapdance in front of her.
"Hi."

He doesn't.
"Me." She nods absently before scowling at him.
"YoU. ShoUlD'vE bEeN tHeRe. I cOuLd bE mAd. I cOuLd. I gEt ThaT WAy anD SuLk AnD SCrEaM. I dO. I cOuLd."
There is a pause, as she picks up a card and begins to fold it, carefully, paper changing under her hands in substance as much as shape.

And says, sounding proud, and almost enchanted, "You changed, didn't you. I wish I had been there."
But in a way -- wasn't he?
no subject
She's not quite done yet.
Almost scolding, even shaking her finger, before she bursts into giggles and sits on the table.
The state of her train of thought hasn't changed that much, whatever else has.
no subject
And at her. He likes it when she laughs. "What did you do?"
no subject
That's not her problem.
no subject
He leans back in his chair, lacing his fingers together behind his head.
