There is a Jedi Master outside.

Oh, yes, he is going over lightsaber katas. If anything, his skill keeps on improving.

In the semi-dark of a starry night, the display of flashing and dancing lights is quite impressive.

The old man wanders out from the bar and watches for several moments.

"Master Windu," he says at length. "I didn't think it was possible for your skill with the blade to improve any further."

Watch the impossible. Mace Windu is surprised.

"Obi-Wan?" He freezes in mid-routine, and composure flies off the window.

No, he does not hug Ben, but he gets close to it. "Obi-Wan!" That is also a rare smile on his part.

Obi-Wan bows and returns the smile. "You recognized me more quickly than Master Dooku did. Then again, the last time he'd seen me, I'd only just had my braid trimmed, let alone started growing the beard." Headshake. "But I must be from quite some time into your future all the same."

"How could I not recognize a friend, and the one and only true Master of Soresu?" Yes, ladies and gentlemen, he has a sense of humor.

The smile deepens. "'The Master of Soresu'. Now there's a name I've not heard in a long time. But," he shrugs, "who am I to argue with the Master of Vaapad if he chooses to recognize me as a peer?" He holds out a hand for shaking. "By the by, when is it for you? Master Dooku didn't say."

"I did not tell him. I come here from hours, days at most before Sidious turned the Clone Troopers on us. Anakin came to me, saying he had discovered the Chancellor was a Sith, and I took Kit Fisto, Saesee Tiin, and Agen Kolar with me to arrest him."

"From your phrasing, I gather you were still on your way to the Chancellor's Suite when you found yourself here, unless you've come from after the events that took place there. In either case," a sigh and a headshake, "I should say you're from only minutes before the troopers received their orders."

"I fought Palpatine... and would have defeated him, if Anakin had not attacked me."

"I saw the security holos when I got back from Utapau, and yes, I believe you would have done." Another sigh and headshake. "Though I was never quite certain, in later years, if that particular cho mai was really Anakin's last act, or rather Darth Vader's first." And his mun would have to check the DVD to be sure whether it was a cho mai or a cho sun.

"Vader. Anakin died the moment he decided to protect Sidious." Funny thing, Mace has both hands now...

"We all thought that. Force, Vader himself left Anakin for dead. But in the end, Anakin's son succeeded where you and I failed, and enabled his father to overcome Vader and defeat Sidious."

"At what cost, old friend? How many died until that day?"

"Too many, Mace. If I could prevent them dying, I would. Then again, Sidious eventually got tractor-lock on Anakin by promising him a way to restore bodily life to the dead, so that may not be the safest comparison." He thinks a moment. "On the other hand, Master Dooku's found out what's in his future, courtesy of the other patrons, and last I heard, he seemed quite keen to avoid it."

"It will work? I did not tell him, because I did not see a shatterpoint ocurring. I do not like the idea of changing history; we can not cover all the possibilities."

"I've no idea if it'll work or not. But enough people from after our time had let enough things slip in his presence..." Another shrug. "...that I decided I might as well be hanged for a shaak as for a nerf and filled in a few more of the blanks. I don't know if he can change the history we remember; I still recall the Clone Wars, and their results, all too clearly, so he hasn't changed it yet. However, this bar's interaction with our galaxy has created at least one branching history that I know of; perhaps he'll be able to create another.

"As to the shatterpoint or lack thereof..." Obi-Wan shrugs again. "It may not have existed yet when you spoke to him. You were one of four Jedi who gave him hints of his future; perhaps it needed all four conversations to create the 'point." He sure is doing a lot of shrugging today, isn't he? "However, lacking the ability to see them as clearly as you do, I've no idea if I hit it or not. All I can do is hope."

"I will have to talk with him, and see what I can find out."

"Let me know what you find, please." He turns to go. "I'd best move on. It was good to see you again, Mace. May the Force be with you."

"I will. May the Force be with you, my friend."
