Outside, under the shade of the trees at the edge of the forest, there is a birthday party going on.
Shufti has laid several large picnic rugs down on the grass, one of which Jack is lying on, watching a passing butterfly.
On small folding tables is a selection of picnic food and paper plates. Sausages on sticks, little cheese and pineapple sticks, fresh fruit, some in sticks with dips. Then there is some more traditional Discworld food, figgins, strawberry wobbler, distressed pudding, cinnamon and marshmallow fingers, celery astonishment and, for the more adventurous, Bananana soup surprise and dwarf bread. On another is a birthday cake with eighteen candles on. A third table has drinks, mainly soft drinks but some beer cans out of reach of children.
[ooc: Normal party post practice applies. Invitations for Molly, Hank, Matilda Wormwood, Mathilda Lando, Mal, Susan Sto Helit, Nerdanel, Asar-Suti and Amanda can be found here. Slowtime as necessary is fine. Friendly gatecrashers will not be shot.]

He examines the dwarf bread with a suitably bemused expression.

Re: Presents
“Happy Birthday, Betty!” Molly says, hugging her friend in greeting. “This is Cain. I know I’ve mentioned him, but I don’t think the two of you have met before.”
Molly also presents Shufti with the presents (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v134/A_is_for_Amy/B000CNLK2M.jpg).
“One is for you,” she says with a smile, “and the other is for Jack (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00008BR9A/ref=cm_gift_gg_bab_B00008BR9A/002-2179439-3712012?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance), so he doesn’t feel left out.”
Re: Presents
"Hello Betty. it is nice to meet you."
he extends his hand to shake hers.
"Happy birthday."
Re: Presents
"Oh, thank you so much." she says, hugging Molly. "Should I open them now?"

Re: Presents
"I'm going to mingle, dear. I will see you soon."
He turns to Betty.
"It is a pleasure to meet you."
He bows to her and wanders into the small crowd.
Re: Presents
She opens her present, gasping when she sees the pretty dress.
"It's beautiful, thank you Molly."
She helps Jack open his, watching his eyes go wide. In typical style he starts chewing the paper until Shufti shows him what he's got, and then he gurgles with delight and starts chewing that instead. Shufti smiles.
"That means he likes it. Thanks, it was very thoughtful."
Re: Presents
"I wanted to get you something pretty, instead of just practical," Molly confesses. "Every woman needs pretty things every once in a while."
She hugs Betty again, the reaches down to tickle Jack's tummy.
"And who can resist spoiling this little man?"
Re: Presents
"Well it's lovely, thank you." she says, smiling at Molly and the baby.
Re: Presents
She picks jack and the toy up and cuddles, and notices the bad spot with a chuckle.
"Looks like he's starting to rub his hair off. My mum said my bald patch made my hair look like a bird's nest at this age, because of my curls."

He's gained something of a bald patch since he last saw him.

Where there is Jack, his mum is never far away. She sits down and cuddles CJ.
"Yes, he's going bald. I don't know why."

"Yes, Guppy says it just happens sometimes. He looked at Jack's scalp and said it didn't look like it was itching or hurting him, and it's not peeling or anything. He doesn't seem to be pulling it out, although he does get a handful from time to time. Actually he said it's already starting to grow back blonde."
A little smile. "And there was me thinking you were going to be a little red-brown hair like your mum."

She smiles and gives them both a peck on the cheek.
"Well that was the plan, but it looks like he's going to have his father's hair." She says, a little sadly, pointing to a few millimetre blonde tips sticking up from his bald patch.

"Eh." Jack babbles to himself, investigating one of the buttons on CJ's shirt.
