Multi-pup post

Guppy is sitting near the fire, attempting to sew a button back on a shirt. Enlightening him that he's sewn it through the back as well may help matters.

Shufti (now bruiseless) is over by the trilobite tank with Jack. She is holding the baby's hands as he stands, encouraging and talking to him.

Johnny Private is outside, trying to disguise the fact that he just trod on one of the flowers by putting it up again against a stick.

Snowball is at the bar, eating mince pies.

"Cliff Huxtable. I did, too, when I was younger. Never was a Scout.
Pleasure to meet you, Guppy."

He smiles and extends a free hand.

"Have you been here long Cliff?"

Enthusiastic handshake. "Uh." He stops and thinks. "A couple of days, by the time here. I know, I have to go back soon, but this place is just. It's great. One minute prepping to work the OBGYN
floor, the next, blam!" waving in the general direction of the bar.

"Are you another medic then?" Guppy asks, sticking the needle in his trousers for temporary safekeeping.

"Oh. Yes." Cliff smiles. "I've been working as an M.D. at Philadelphia Memorial Hospital for the last eight years." He picks up on the 'another'.

A nod and a wider smile.

"That's great, we can always use more medics around here. I'm an SHO at Holby City General Accident and Emergency department, near Wales. Until they shut it down anyway."

Cliff grins. "My man!" Always good to meet a colleague. "Can you? I heard the place has an Infirmary, but I hadn't seen it yet."

"It certainly does. Do you want a quick tour?"

"Lead the way, sir."

Guppy gets up, securing his needle in the shirt, and heads over to the infirmary.

He holds the door for Cliff.

"This is the infirmary."

"Thanks..." Cliff enters, and looks around. He might be just a little wide-eyed for a second.

Guppy smiles at his reaction.

"This is the ward. Each bed is equipped with a very high tech scanner and monitor. Around the room are items of medical equipment from all over time and space, so hopefully there should be kit you're familiar with. Most of this was contributed by Dr Hank McCoy, who's... not here at the moment, as far as I'm aware. Dr Simon Tam is technically in charge, but we tend to work independently."

Heading across to a second door inside. "This is the office. Staff can use it as a quiet area to do paperwork, or to crash on the sofa during a long night. We also have an assigned waitrat, Aesclepius."

Cliff takes a closer look, and nods. Some of the items are quite familiar. He'd have to acquaint himself with the rest, but that's fine by him.
"Aesclepius." He chuckles, memorizes the names. "No patients here at the moment?"

Guppy indicates a closed curtain.

"Just the one." ~~If the mun's millitime is correct~~. "Not one of mine, so I don't interfere with the treatment unless the medic who first treated them is unavailable. We also have magical healers use this place, have you come across this yet?"

" Right," agreeing with the 'no interference' comment. "No, not yet."

A nod.

"And I'm guessing you're aware that some of our patrons aren't human?"

"That'd be a little hard to miss. I thought--There's this young lady I met whom I thought was an alien, at first.
Do healers or medics here come from all races too?"

"We're a mixed bunch, but compared with the total number of species here, not at all. It can be difficult to know what is compatible with the physiology of different subspecies of human, particularly when it comes to drugs. And there's really no way of knowing what will happen in someone of another species. In these situations I tend to tell the patient what the effect would be in a human, inform them of the risk, and let them decide."

He puts the kettle on. "And you have to be careful of different cultures too, making sure you explain what you're doing before you do it and so on. For example I had a patient who didn't realise I was using the visual part of the scanner, and got very upset because her religion didn't allow pictures of living things."

"That doesn't sound so unfamiliar--the mix of cultures, I mean. When I'm not onduty at the hospital, I help run a free clinic in another part of town.
Pretty much a 'no questions about legal matters' sort of place," he admits. "We get a lot of newcomers from other countries. 'Don't make assumptions' is like the Third Commandment'."

Guppy nods.

"Usually when I'm not in Holby, I'm on duty here. Even though it's usually quiet, it pays to have someone around for the occasional magic war or epidemic. What did you say your specialty is?"

"OB-GYN, though at the free clinic it's primary care. If you'd like I can bring you a copy of my credentials."

is that a whistling kettle? "I'm certainly willing to help. It won't be hard to get here; the door's within easy reach."

Guppy leans over and taps the kettle off.

"Nobody's ever actually asked me for my credentials." he admits. "Not that I've given them reason to, and I at least have my ID on me."

He indicates a card clipped to his belt. 'Dr Gurpreet Sandhu, SHO, Holby ED' And flips it over to reveal his more home-made looking one. 'Dr Guppy Sandhu, SHO, Milliways Bar'.

"However." he continues. "When I first started here we had Barry Allen in charge of the medical roster, who knew me pretty well before I started working here. He's not here any more though, so if you can, you need to make yourself known to Simon. At very least send him a note, he tends to operate at precisely the opposite time of day to me."

He passes the kettle over to Cliff with the tea and coffee pots.

"Particularly given your field. Quite a few women have given birth here so it'll be very good to have someone more used to the process than me."

"I'll leave Dr.Tam a note as soon as I'm out of here, then." Cliff pours himself a cup before setting it down
carefully.
"...Yes, I'd think so," he says, smiling wryly.
