One year ago, on this date, Sara was a crumpled sobbing mess on the lake shore, clutching a red spandex costume to her chest.
This year, she's not doing anything so dramatic.

And all in her closet! It's almost better than Narnia.
But someone's sad, and that's not good. Mr. Adrian had taught her how to get things to eat, and she does so.
So a plate of warm chocolate chip cookies is pushed unsteadily onto the table, and a little pigtailed head and hazel eyes peeks over the top at Sara.

She sits up a little straighter. "I'm from Hartford, Connecticut. And you can call me Rilla, everybody does, even Mom and Daddy, 'cause I won't answer if they call me other things."

Yay, milk! Once the milk is poured, she carefully sips it, making sure not to get a milk mustache.
It's one of the things she's trained herself not to do, it gets on Mom and Daddy's nerves.
