Ah so, here is the recovering alcoholic hippie, in the bar, at a booth, with real food. Yeah, totally. He's eating it very, very slowly, but he does have what appears to be a ham sandwich. And tea.

And a really big, really old book, compliments of ~~Nearly Wristless Rod~~ Roderick Usher.

He is also playing with a spoon, twirling it in one hand lazily.

Please annoy.

Possibly the kid turns, notices this and stares right back.

Today is a day for staring contests, it seems.

"Did you just walk out of that painting?"

He glances back over his shoulder, then nods.

"Yes."

"Are you a ghost?"

He's met a number of people from the House of Arch, but although he's been told its entrance is a painting, no one has ever explicitly pointed the right one out to him, and somehow the description doesn't click.

"...no", he says after a moment's consideration. Not any more he isn't, anyway. And he only ever technically was.

"Oh. A wizard then? How'd you do that?"

"Yeah, I'm a wizard", he agrees cheerfully. "But the painting isn't my magic."

Miniver grins. Gavroche is a very LITTLE wizard.

"Whose magic is it?"

He's nearly twelve! He's just short.

"Tom's, I think. It was there before I got here."

"Oh! Oh, oh! That's the entrance! I get it! Cool!" He looks over to the painting again. "Totally. Cool."

Gavroche grins.

"It is, isn't it?"

"Totally," Miniver says. "Okay. Wait, whose world are you really from?"

"...mine", is all Gavroche can offer in answer to that. "But I live in Door's world now. London Below."

"So not like, Tom's world or anything? Does yours have magic?"

"Not that I ever saw when I was there. I got the wizardry after I came here."

"From who?" Miniver asks a lot of questions. "Cuz," eyedart eyedart, "so did I."

"Rabbit", Gavroche tells him. "It's the same kind as Nita, if you know her."

He gives Miniver a slightly dubious look, because Miniver is far too old to gain the same kind of wizardry he has, by canonical rules.

"I don't know them. I think I have Tom's kind of magic, but I can't use it. Except the enchanted quill. That works." GRIN.

"How'd that happen?" Gavroche asks curiously. "I thought you had to be born with it."

And so did the mun.

"Wish ring." Miniver shrugs. It was very clever, really. "He wished I'd been born with it."

"Oh." Gavroche grins. "Nice thing to do, if you wanted it."

And who wouldn't, really?

"Draco's nicer than most people figure him to be," Miniver says.

Most of Miniver's mun's other pups wouldn't want it. It is a thing. Miniver is, perhaps, not as smart as they are.

"I don't know him very well", Gavroche admits. Their paths have crossed once or twice, probably, since they live in the same House.

"He does research or something. I don't really know about what. He wouldn't tell me. All very secret and whatnot."

Gavroche nods. "Maybe he'll tell you more now you're a wizard too."
