"Except I can do it."

"I don't care. Maybe that's the way things work on planet Starbuck, but the rest of the universe doesn't see it that way. It's too risky."

"For a lousy pilot."

"For any pilot that values his safety and his ass."

"Frak Safety, it loses them, doesn't it?"

"Sure, at the cost of your equilibrium and you position of reference. You might be able to do it, but anyone with an ounce of self-preservation shouldn't even try it."

The sounds of Apollo and Starbuck's good-natured arguing float down the stairs before they're seen clattering down to find some dinner. Two muns, two pups, tag one or both.

Sheppard raises an eyebrow as he listens, but doesn't comment on the stims thing-while he can infer that they're some sort of pep pill, he's not clear on the whole situation. The mention of the Pegasus makes his shake his head a bit.

"Always weird hearing that name not refer to a galaxy."

I never expected a damn thing out of her. Hell, I flunked her out, you and your father made me put her back.

*When she had walked in a little over a month ago, she had still had a scab where Kat had punched her*

Besides, now she's better than me.

*She knows as it comes out that she shouldn't have said it, but she decides to let it lie*

"Point," Sheppard says, still keeping himself out of the argument for the moment. He's out of the loop when it comes to their universe. "So are you the only trainer, or are there some other people crazy enough to try it?"

Look, a quasi-change of topic!

*She snorts*

Just me. No one else expendable enough to try to teach idiots how to fly. Also, no other flight instructors from before the attacks.

"How'd you find them, anyway? Ask around to see who had some flight experience and go from there?"

Starting with people who had never had any sort of experience behind the controls of a ship, plane, or other engine-bearing flying thing sounded like a bad idea when there weren't any simulators around.

Yeah. Fun group of Academy dropouts and freight haulers.

[identity profile] no-comb-shep.livejournal.com 2007-03-01 07:10 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, that's usually a plus. Wish I could get a look at what you fly, though." He frowns, thinking. "What were they called? Cobras? Something snakey."

Vipers. Captain Adama installed a Viper package on the sims upstairs yesterday, so you could try one out if you wanted to.

Sheppard looks interesting. "I'll have to look at it. Should practice on my flying anyway, for when the door decides to show up again."

"I've been Bound for a couple months. And if it wasn't for the fact that there's this plan that involve having to be right where I was before I came here, I'd probably be out back playing stargate roulette right now."

Does time pass on the other side while you're here? It doesn't for us...

[identity profile] no-comb-shep.livejournal.com 2007-03-01 07:33 am (UTC)(link)
"It hasn't before-and I'm really hoping that it didn't decide to start passing this time, because that would make things interesting." He glances to Lee. "It's this travel system the Ancients came up with-a bunch of rings either floating in space or sitting in the ground that open up wormholes from gate to gate. Pretty fast and handy way to travel." He pauses. "Most of the time, anyway. We built the gate outside, and it's just a little bit...screwy."

[identity profile] oh-frak-me.livejournal.com 2007-03-01 07:45 am (UTC)(link)
*She tries to figure out what that means*

So, it's faster transit by...what? Bending space?

[identity profile] no-comb-shep.livejournal.com 2007-03-01 07:55 am (UTC)(link)
"...Kinda?" he offers. "McKay-or some other scientist-could explain it a lot better than I could. Mainly, I know the two important rules-don't have anything halfway through the gate when it closes, and don't get your jumper stuck in the gate while you're in space. ...Not getting the jumper stuck is a good idea in general, but especially when you're dealing a big cold vaccum."

He frowns at Lee's response. "We learned it was screwy the hard way. It sent us to planet Jurassic Park."
