"Except I can do it."

"I don't care. Maybe that's the way things work on planet Starbuck, but the rest of the universe doesn't see it that way. It's too risky."

"Sure, at the cost of your equilibrium and you position of reference. You might be able to do it, but anyone with an ounce of self-preservation shouldn't even try it."

The sounds of Apollo and Starbuck's good-natured arguing float down the stairs before they're seen clattering down to find some dinner. Two muns, two pups, tag one or both.

*She's never had a boyfriend before, not even as a teenager. Kara Thrace took lovers. And Zak was different, but still never her boyfriend*

He raises an eyebrow a little at that.

"Boyfriend?"

He smiles though, he like it.

"But yes, as your boyfriend, it is my duty and my pleasure."

What do you think your title is here?

He looks down at his plate, pushing his jambalaya around.

"I don't know. I just figured 'Lee'."

You're my Lee?

He shrugs.

"It's true, isn't it?"

*She half-smiles*

Hard to introduce you that way though...Gives the impression that you're my pet or something...

"Okay, so... boyfriend."

It feels weird, it's been so long since that was a term he'd been referred to as.

"I guess that makes you my girlfriend. But... you said 'here'. You still think this won't translate when we go back."

I meant here in this relationship. But...I know what happens, Lee. And it won't translate. I wouldn't be surprised if I walked up to you after...when you catch up and you hit me and walk into the arms of the next woman who offers and marry her. Lucky woman.

He looks horrified.

"Kara..."

I know what happens, Lee. I know what you should do.

And I wish you and her the very best.

"Kara, stop. I refuse to have this conversation right now. I love you, that is never, never going to change."

That much is so, so very true.

*She closes her eyes and swallows hard. When she opens her eyes, they're still bleak, but she can smile again*

I think I said I would dance with you.

He relaxes, just a little.

"Yeah you did."

It's not that he doesn't believe that something happens, it's just that he believes that love, what they have, is stronger than that.

*She stands up and holds out her hand*

He takes it, standing and spinning her around a little. Enough to make her skirt flare out a little.

*She grins. At the Colonial Day dance, he had held back a little, probably worried about her knee. It looks like that won't be true here*

It was a little about her knee, and a little about not being certain of her. He knew how he felt, but as far as he knew, she didn't think of him as anything but her CAG. He swings her into his arms, and dancing like this with her feels as perfect and natural as making love to her.

*She follows his lead easily and relaxes again. She's flat terrified of the future, but for right now, her boyfriend, her Lee, is dancing with her*

The future will hold what it will, as long as they're both still alive, he'll love her. Even the times when he can't stand her, he'll still love her. The music slows a little, and he pulls her close, resting his cheek against her hair.

*It's the times he can't stand her that are the issue. She's fairly sure that eventually (when he catches up) those times will outlast the times when he likes being around her and thats when he'll leave her. Probably better she leave first, but it has to be his decision, not hers, it's the only way that she'll be the only one hurt*

It has to be mutual, with both parties fully aware of the situation, which is why he knows he has to go back eventually. He just keeps putting it off, selfishly wanting more of her all to himself without life and war intruding on them. He spins them slowly around the floor. He won't give her up without a fight.

*She's considered slipping out and hoping he ends up Bound so he'll never know. But that's unworthy and cowardly and she doesn't really want it. She just...doesn't want to leave him*

It is a hard decision, but he has the ability to make those. Still, he'll probably end up doing something similar; slipping out before he can change his mind, or before she can change his mind for him. He just knows he has to catch up to her. It's driving him slowly crazy.

*She won't try to change his mind. She deserves to be left and she'll let him*
