Gordon had been stepping into the restaurant where he's been working lately to pay the bills. This... is not it. It's a lot nicer than a crappy restaurant in mid-90's Alphabet City.

He manages to keep most of the surprise out of his expression, though - he's remarkably calm for someone whose place of occupation has been replaced by an unfamiliar bar. So rather than panicking, he just tilts his head ever so slightly to one side and surveys the room quietly. He supposes his boss didn't just decide to remodel without mentioning it to him, so...

[OOC: Gordon from RENT. RENT characters who know the Man would do well to note that Gordon looks rather like him - though most of them should know Gordon from Life Support anyway.]

Well, that's a blow to the skepticism. He's not too pleased with it.

Gordon has to consider the magically-appearing tea for a moment, and then he frowns at Mimi. "How'd you do that?" Belief doesn't come very easily to him.

"I didn't. She did."

Mimi pats the wood surface affectionately and takes a sip of tea.

"It's very good tea."

"It's a she?" Gordon asks. For some reason the fact that the bar has a gender baffles him more than that tea magically appears on its surface.

"Yeah."

Mimi grins. "I'm told she had a thing with the janitorial broom, once upon a time."

Gordon coughs. Oh, Mimi. Be nice to the poor boy.

"You're joking now, right?"

"No, I'm not."

Mimi pats his shoulder again.

"You'll get used to it."

That's probably not as reassuring as she means it to be.

"I'm not sure I want to get used to it..."

"It'll be easier on you if you do. Trust me, the weirdness doesn't stop."

"New York's weird too..." he says slowly. Which is true, but not on a par with Milliways. Try again, Gordon.

"Mark met a girl here. Who he loves more than Maureen. They're getting married."

That'll prove her point.

Gordon is silent for some time before he answers. "I think I might want to go back to New York, where we have a normal kind of weird." Beat. "Whatever that means."

"Can you see the door? Sometimes people get stuck here."

Gordon glances back over his shoulder. "Yes, it's... still there. I'm not sure I like the idea of disappearing doors."

"Nobody does. It's happened to Mark a couple of times."

He sighs. "At least it... comes back?"

Don't answer that truthfully, Mimi. Just assure him that yes, it does always come back eventually, and not to worry about it. Because Gordon worries compulsively, he doesn't need one more thing to be paranoid about.

"Yes," Mimi says. "And most of the time, no matter how long you spend here, no time passes back in your world."

She can lie for his own good.

(She's had to do it with Roger, most likely.)

Gordon nods, relieved by that. "Good to hear."

Then again, it's not the time that passes outside that concerns him, quite as much as the time that passes for him, and he can't ignore that. He won't mention it, though. He knows just how far cynicism gets with Mimi.

Oh, Gordon can get away with it further than Roger, at least.

When Roger's being cynical, Mimi just kisses his neck. Or pinches a nipple. Or something like that.

This is true. ...Gordon is glad for that.

He stands there for a moment, watching her, his eyes flickering periodically around the bar as he tries to... process, or something. Finally, he sighs, biting his lower lip. "I think I'm going to go back out and try again. See if I can actually get to work this time. I'd say I'll see you soon, but I'm not entirely sure I will."

"Yeah." Mimi smiles at him. "We'll run into each other again eventually, I'm sure."
