Tom escorts Ingress into Milliways this evening for the first time in a while. They are dressed in wizarding garments - suit robes for Tom and purple dress robes for Ingress.

Why, you ask? Why not! They've been to Diagon Alley for dinner and now it's time for ice cream.

For Ingress anyway. Tom doesn't care for ice cream.

At some point, a paper ball resembling this (http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h184/theimmortalliar/yami.jpg) rolls up against Ingress's feet.

Miniver looks divinely innocent, except for how he doesn't. It's hard to look innocent with a pair of scissors and a paper crane in your hair...

"Wow, a paper ball!"

She picks it up and looks around for who might did it. The fellow with the scissors and paper crane looks like a likely suspect.

Ingress smiles and waves. "Hi!"

"Milady," Miniver greets her with a smile and a nod, and the same to Tom. "Lord Ostium. See, I remembered how to say it," he notes to Ingress with a wink.

She laughs. "It's not so hard to say."

"Not if you've heard it many times before, little one," he says to Ingress with a pat on the head.

"Good evening, Miniver."

"Been out enchanting people's doormats?" he asks, eyeing their robes. Silly question, yes. Mainly to amuse Ingress. He's slowly but surely getting used to children.

"No, we went out for fancy dinner, so we dressed up."

"We had a special occasion in the House. My son, Gavroche, had a birthday today."

"Yeah? Hey, I met him. Cute kid. Have to wish him happy birthday if I see him. Pretty robes," he says to Ingress. "Match your hair, you know?"

Miniver still looks like his usual tatty self.

"Hope you two've been well besides?"

"I've been good!" Then holding up the ball, she says, "How'd you make this?"

"Oh, that's easy. I've got more paper here, if you want to try. I was trying to write poetry but... well, you know. Here, you have to cut it into strips like this... don't worry if there are words on it, those are expendable..."

She's not sure what expendable means, exactly, but she gets the idea.

"Yeah, I want to try."

She takes up the scissors and begins snipping away. "How many do you cut?"

"We've been very well. How have you been?"

"The same. Draco's showed me wizard chess. Stupid thing poked me with a sword." He is entirely too amused by that. "And people thought they were cliver to invent telephones..."

Rand looks up from his leather-bound notebook and maps, subtly hiding his stump of a hand when he recognizes Tom and sees he has a child with him.

"Tom, it has been some time."

"Hullo, Rand," he says, somewhat surprised to see Rand after so long. "How the bloody hell have you been?"

Managing a smile, he bows his head slightly. "There have been better times, but I am mostly whole and in good enough health. Who's this little one?"

He looks to Ingress with a grin.

"This is Ingress, Door's little sister."

"Hi!" Ingress says with a wave.

Rand stands and manages a proper bow to Ingress.

"Light watch over you, Lady Ingress."

Ingress grins, but then whispers to Tom, "Why'd he say that?"

Tom whispers back, "It's what they say on Nynaeve and Moiraine's world, where Rand's from. Remember?"

To Rand he continues, "Did you know we have Nynaeve and her husband as guests in the House of Arch? She's teaching Ingress about herbal remedies in our new greenhouse."

Tom is quite pleased to have an Aes Sedai as a guest.

"It's good to hear that she has a safe place to stay. Nynaeve is always worrying about others and not often worrying about herself."

He sits back down and gestures to an empty seat for Ingress and Tom to take.

"How has life been treating you, Tom?"

"Well, I have to say. The past six months in particular have been quite fine."

He won't go into the months before that of sheer unpleasantness.

"Given how things have been in the past, that's a good thing to hear."

Last time they'd talked at length, they were dragging Moiraine back from a place well outside of this one.
