(no subject)

A Millitimed Nathan was out back, waiting for the London trip. He was standing on the ground, but he was looking to the sky. Noticed somebody with pale hair buzzing around... on a broom of all things.

But he was also feeling the pull. Of the wind. The sky calling. He should resist. But he didn't want to. Not entirely. Well, who would notice him here? No pundits, no press. No questions to be asked. Not to have to think about his brother who he can't do anything for right now.

Just let go. Tempting... And he rose in the air, smoothly and silently into the sky. Giving in.
Just another secret to add to the pile.

The glancing impact sends Ralph into a lateral spin, with the effect that instead of crashing into the lake as he'd hoped, he ends up wrapping himself around a tree, stripping the bark as he skids down to the ground.

He pulls himself up, brushing the bits of leaf and bark off the suit, and starts scanning the skies for the other guy, hoping he's all right.

"Hey! You okay up there?" he calls out, hands cupped around his mouth.

"Oh, I'm peachy," Ralph replies. "I was trying to get some practice in. Didn't expect that anyone else would be up there. Aliens give you a suit, too?"

"That's how I can fly," he explains. "This suit was given to me by aliens. Actual aliens from space. They seemed to think I was the best choice to help protect the human race."

Ralph frowns and tilts his head at the other man.

"If you don't have a supersuit, how can you fly?"

"Well, you're really good at it."

He scratches at the back of his head nervously.

"I'm Ralph, by the way. Ralph Hinkley. I, um, don't suppose you could give me any pointers?"

"I'd really appreciate anything you could tell me. I've been struggling with this thing for a few years now, and, well... you saw it. I've never really gotten the hang of it."

Ralph scoffs. "It's not like it's a common ability back home. There's nobody to ask. They may be called the Flying Wallendas, but they still have a net. And I've only been here a couple of days with no way to know that there were other people who could fly. Believe me, if I had known about this place back when I first got the suit, I would have been in lessons from day one."

"Oh, I can just see that conversation. 'Excuse me, can you fly? No, not a plane, just you. I only ask because some aliens gave me a suit that allows me to fly, only I'm not very good at it and could use some lessons.' No, I think the mid-air collisions are less painful."

Ralph grins. Did Superman have to have someone to show him the ropes, he wonders vaguely.

"Good to know. I'll just have to keep an eye on the skies, I guess. My biggest problem is stability," he begins, then looks over his shoulder at the bare tree behind him.

"Okay, so my biggest problem is landing. But if I could fly straight and maintain altitude to begin with, that might take care of half the problem right there."

"At least I'm not the only one with trouble in that area," he says with a chuckle. "But, hovering? That's pretty amazing there. I've never been able to manage that."

"How do you do it at all? I've tried using telekinesis on myself to lift me up, but I can't seem to get that to work."
