Once Kara got out of the cells and only kind of bolted for the Door, she couldn't get back to the Bar for a few days. She was sort of surprised she missed it, but hey, here it is. Coolness.

First things first - she leaves a long overdue note with Bar.

I turned myself in and did cell time for the fight in the woods. You don't have to, because I worked that out with the girl who took me in, so I'm hoping that you're satisfied with that.

I know it probably won't matter to you, but I am sorry. I hope you're doing okay.

After that, Kara heads outside to study for Claire's math quiz. One small, blonde, cross-legged levitating girl in an entirely seasonable crop top and shorts is hanging out by the lake as she pours over her mostly borrowed notes.

This, she reflects, would probably be easier if she'd ever taken a test she could remember before that didn't involve hitting things with cars or identifying the silhouettes of weaponry.

Distractions will bring her grade down, but she'll be grateful anyway.

"I...did run into her," Kara says, squirming a little, because...that didn't go so great, "I don't know that I made such a great impression, actually. I was all..." Kara's hands flutter in the air. "Sucky and weird."

"Kara?" Spoon eyes her, "Mum lives with me. If there's one thing she understands, its being confused and weird. First day she ever saw me I threw up by the side of the road and burst into tears. At least twice. Then started carrying a fuckin' blanket around. Did that for days."

"Mm," Kara says, and since they're so close it's not hard to end up with her head lightly touching his, "Yeah. And, I mean...yeah."

He's fine with that. He really is. "Yeah. Mum's seen weirder, I can promise. She's the fuckin' heart of a family full of nutcases, as long as you didn't try to hurt anyone around her she'll be alright with you."

"I really want her to like me," Kara says - she wouldn't actually admit that to anybody else, but there it is, "I just...I really want your family to like me. That's important, you know?"

"I know." Spoon says, "I feel like that about Ace's family, and about me biological parents. Been talking to them once a week. They want me to visit."

"Really?" Kara tilts her head and smiles. "That's cool. If, um, it is cool. Is it cool?"

"Dunno as I'm ready, yet." He says honestly, lighting a new fag (he has to do that regularly), "But we're talking about it. Thinking in June. Can I have a photograph before then?" He's got the kids, mum and da' and Phils and Susan and Phils' husband, and Zuko's puppies. He's got Ace, Raven, Moiraine, and Magic. He's got Cooper and Nelly.

It takes a minute to divine what he means from that, but she eventually clues in.

"Well, yeah," she says, "What kind do you want? Claire, Kara, or Supergirl?"

There is actually a fourth option, but Spoon hasn't met Flamebird. Kara very sincerely hopes no one ever meets Flamebird again, and also that she just dies or goes away or whatever it takes to make her not be around anymore.

"Whichever you don't mind me showing around." He says firmly, "So probably Claire or Supergirl, but only because you don't like Kara being known."

"Thanks," she says, and hums a little as she thinks. "I think Kara'd be okay, if you just said it was Supergirl in the photo. Or you could say it was Claire, if the superhero name thing would be awkward to explain?"

"Kara, then, and I'll call you Supergirl." He says cheerfully, "Thank you."

" No problem - and you do realize that this means you're gonna have to get me a picture of you and the little guys, right?" She says, grinning.

"Got one of the kids...I'll ask Ace to take pictures of us for you. She's got a little camera that she can print things out of. Like a Polaroid, only better." Spoon says with a grin, "Try to have it by the next time we talk."

"No pressure," Kara says, quickly, "I mean, whenever you have time is fine. Because, you know, I have plans for sticking around or whatever, so."

"Of course, lass. I'm glad to hear you don't plan on leaving." Really. Spoon's no Ace, but he rather loathes people disappearing himself.

"Thanks," she says, warmly, "Plus, it's sort of impossible right now without waking up the kids, and that'd just be sad." Kara has every intention of not moving until they wake up.

"Yeah." Spoon grins at Kara and the pile of puppies, "It would be. Why, they might only sleep seven or eight hours tonight." He loves them. So much.

Kara gasps quietly, eyes widening in mock horror. "No! Okay, clearly, this is a naptime emergency." It's good he loves them, because unreciprocated love is awkward and painful and nothing anyone wants to deal with.

Spoon laughs again, and ruffles the sleeping puppy-ball gently, "Seems so. Aren't they just fuckin' wonderful?" Spoon was in love from the first time Rasia stepped on someone else's head to get closer to Spoon. From the first nibbles of Stepan's teeth on Spoon's fingertips.

"They're amazing," Kara says, softly, ever so lightly touching the edges of their fur, "I mean, just...yeah. They're good kids."

"The best. Fuckin' saved me sanity after Zuko took the lads back. Coop loaned us Nelly, but she knew she was just a temporary guest...much better to have dogs living with us." Spoon props himself up to look at the sleeping puppies. Besotted man.

"I so agree." Kara takes a slightly deeper breath than normal, just to watch the rise and fall of the puppies on her chest. "They are...sort of small bundles of fluffy pure goodness."

She sighs. "Not like the cat. The cat is a jerk." She nearly lets that stand, but then recalls that Spoon...will have no idea what she's talking about.

"There's this cat that hangs around my apartment, and it's such a stupid, sulky, mean, scraggly little mess of evil that it boggles the mind. I swear to God it would kill me if it could, and not even for food or anything, just because it hates me."

"Ah, well. Cats are different from dogs. Cats have to be seduced. Not sexually. You have to convince them that you're better than the alternative, because they aren't pack animals. You leave a bit of food around for them, you leave a window open, and perhaps one day they stomp into your lap and take it over." He says wisely.

Not that Ace stomps. Usually.

"I'm doing that!" Kara exclaims. "But I'm serious. It mocks me. That's just messed up, you know?"
