Kate's--
She's not exactly stir-crazy.
Mostly, she just...wants her boyfriend to get back. Wants Logan to get back. Wants the cold that hit a few days ago to just finish up entirely already, and wants to have Logan's damned healing factor.
But so far she's 0 for 4.
She's more realistically hoping, as she settles into a booth with her security badge visible, that Ororo might be, but first glance doesn't reveal her either.
And her dragon is God only knows where.
Conclusion: coffee, a book by Emma Bull, and a box of tissues are needed.
She's not using the latter too much, though, and if she thought she was contagious she wouldn't be here.
Which means she's open to interruptions, as lovely as The War of the Oaks is.
ETA: When she gets ready to leave, she notices a note.
And her jaw tightens, as Kate wonders just where Lilly's gone, and hopes the answer isn't one she'll regret asking for.

She actually rarely tries to sneak up on any of the X-men.
She just moves very quietly. Call it old habit.
She's also looking rather intently at what Kate is reading.
Why are people fighting over oak trees?
no subject
Shadows are helpful when noise isn't.
"He know you're here yet?"
no subject
X is quiet for a moment or two.
"I know."
no subject
"Hey, Laura. Long time no see."
no subject
"No."
She is not particularly concerned with how Logan finds out. Because he will.
"I came back."
no subject
Kate reaches for a tissue, scratches her nose with it--it itches, more than anything else--and says, "You want to sit?"
no subject
X settles down, one foot resting on the seat in case she has to lever herself out quickly.
"When are you?"
no subject
no subject
Laura doesn't always pay strict attention to time.
She frowns slightly.
"Where?"
no subject
"Farther along than that. And on a ship called Serenity. Space pirates. It appeals to my childhood dreams and lack of self-preservation both."
no subject
X studies Kate a little more intently.
"Dreams?"
no subject
"I may be breaking a ninja rule by saying that. But it's still true. Space pirates are...not quite the same thing as traditional, but they do have, uh, colorful adventures."
no subject
"Okay."
no subject
"How're you, Laura?"
no subject
"I am on a team, now."
It is very strange.
"They are confusing."
no subject
no subject
Not on X's terms, anyway.
It is odd.
And then, of course, there is the socializing.
no subject
She's not smiling.
"Don't worry. They'll learn. Or they'll leave."
It's just how it works.
no subject
"They do not like me."
She is not yet sure why.
They are mutants, too.
no subject
And for a minute suddenly feels old.
"They don't understand you," she says finally.
"You're different. And even mutants fear what is different. We're still human at heart."
no subject
She does not sound disappointed.
It's hard to be disappointed when you do not hope for much.
"It is different from New York."
no subject
no subject
She thinks about this for some time.
"I do not know."
This is not precisely true. She just does not know how to explain it.
no subject
"Do you miss it?"
no subject
"No."
She is quiet again for a while.
"I miss San Francisco."
no subject
no subject
"People."
no subject
"You don't have to. But I'd like to know."
no subject
Some things are not for anyone but her to know.
And maybe Logan.
no subject
Kate thinks for a moment.
"Would you like to go back to San Francisco to visit?"
no subject
It was not the same.
And then Logan called.
no subject
no subject
She does.
"It is not the same."
no subject
Cass doesn't stare all that obviously, but Kate's probably going to pick up on it anyway.
[ooc: I've been meaning to do this for a while now, but I'm going to bed. Hopefully, we can do some slowtime, but if not... Well, that's cool too.]
no subject
After a minute or two. And then she smiles a little at the girl.
"Hey."
[ooc: EEE, Cassandra. :) Slow is so fine.]
no subject
no subject
"I don't think we've met. I'm Kate," she offers.
no subject
Cass nods in response to the first point, then nods gravely.
no subject
no subject
no subject
Besides.
It's fun.
Even without a Spoon leading.
no subject
Kate's just blinking.
Not a lot, though.
It's not THAT weird.
"Shiny coat, Ace."
no subject
no subject
"How've you been?"
