Hagrid is happy.

Why is Hagrid happy?

He has his friend Stampy the tinyphant with him today, for a romp outside!

They are currently playing fetch with one of Stampy's squeaky toys and keeping a sharp look out for birds. Come and say hello and offer Stampy treats!

"The wizarding world...is that another world, like the ones that Captain Reynolds is always tellin' me about?"

"Don' know a Captain Reynolds, but we live in th' same world as everyone else, but keep separate, see? We've got laws ter keep muggles from findin' out about us, an' everything."

"Oh. So ye're like monks off in the cloisters?

"And aren't you violating the laws by telling me?" Trusting a pirate with a secret isn't exactly a smart notion.

"Nah...nothin' that drastic. There's spells an' things ter keep folk away, and ter make 'em ferget what they saw if it looks like it's gonna cause trouble.

"From what I've seen around here, I don't reckon that the laws matter here, so much."

"no, they tend not to. It's one of the things that keeps me coming back, even though - no offense - I will never like magic."

"I reckon you'd like it a lot better if you was magical."

Who wouldn't?

"Mos' who know about it an' don't like it have been on th' wrong side o' it."

"And what would be on the right side of it?" He is quite sure there isn't a right side of it. Which is as close to being cynical about anything that Gibbs gets.

"The one that don't hurt yeh? We teach our kids that magic shouldn' ever be used to hurt others. 'Specially muggles, who can't fight back."

"Well, I suppose that's all well and good. But...well, I just feel better treading carefully. No offense." He keeps repeating that. He doesn't want to make anyone that big angry. Ever.

It's hard to make Hagrid angry, most of the time.

"None taken. Yeh SHOULD tread carefully aroun' magic, even when yer magical."

"And do the magical types use it for things often, or save it for when it's needed?"

"Mos' use it every day fer everything from cookin' ter travelin'. They're still careful with it, fer the mos' part."

It sounds very dangerous. But then, so do these machines he keeps hearing about from the future. No doubt the world is bound to change.

"That's good. That's good." And Gibbs thinks he best not press the issue and let Hagrid return to his borrowed and bizarre pet. "It's been...interestin' chatting. But I ought return to my ship. Have a good day."
