It's nearly time, and Shufti has been having contractions all morning.

Knowing from experience that the actual labour will probably take quite some time, she is sitting quietly in the bar with a hot water bottle, trying to keep Jack entertained whilst she waits for CJ.

Jack is playing with building blocks next to the table, oblivious to the moments when his mum's face creases with the pain of a contraction.

Down from upstairs, carrying a bag with all necessary things, CJ comes to the rescue. "Hey love." He kisses Betty's cheek. "You think it's time?"

"Yes." She grimaces and puts a hand to her abdomen. "I'm having contractions every three minut... the door's gone."

"Well, it means it will be here." He sigh and nods, ready to pick her up. "Who can watch Jack for a bit?"

He plans to stay wtih her all the time.

"Alex might be around." Shufti says, slipping her arms around him. Jack looks up at them both and asks solumnly.

"Daddy, is Mommy going to explode?"

"Oh boy. You look ready to pop.

"Hey, CJ," he adds.

CJ blinks at the boy and chuckles a bit, crouching to give him a hug. "No, Jack. She is just having the baby. Can you wait with uncle Knox for a bit?" CJ nods to Alex, relieved that the man is there. "Can you watch Jack for a while, man?"

"Aaaaaargh thanks Alex." Shufti grimaces and holds onto CJ.

Jack goes happily with his uncle Alex, which is a relief.

"Yeah, it's fine," he says as it's pretty clear she really is ready to give birth. "Go, get to the hospital. I'll keep an eye on Jackie."

"Thanks man, owe you one." CJ nods to Alex, picking up Betty and heading away.
