Sometime shortly before this, Nita enters the bar.

And while the Suit she's wearing doesn't quite resemble the one in the icon -- it's still very black and very snazzy.

She's taking a well-deserved coffee break somewhere that doesn't have Neeble.

"Well, well, well. Don't we look like a million bucks," drawls a voice from one of the nearby tables.

Duo flicks a wave at her.

Nita beams, tugs the jacket straighter, and flicks some nonexistent lint off the lapel.

"Wait, wait, it gets better."

Because it comes with Ray-Bans, of course. She flips them out, slides them on, and poses.

Duo breaks out into spontaneous applause. "You know, denying the end of the universe your sparkling presence before now is just cruel. You don't want to be cruel, do you, Nita?"

"Heck, I'm Oath-bound against it. I'll have to spend more time here to make up for it."

She shoots a wry glance over her shoulder at the door. "If Zed'll let me sneak away from work, that is."

"I HEARD. What is this about, anyway? Your job isn't dangerous enough? You have to throw the Big Boss into the mix? You might be braver than me."

He is aghast! Or at least seriously amused.

"Hey, it's been over a year since my last near-death experience. And it'll look good on my resume!"

"They're not gonna flashy-thing you once you're done? Not that I don't have utmost confidence in your ability to dodge them, but they're tricky."

Duo is pretty sure he has managed to escape it so far. Not entirely, but.

"Not that I've heard, but" -- she shrugs -- "would they tell me if they were planning on it?"

"You know, I have no idea. Because they could zap that right out of your head too, if they wanted. Maybe there's something in your contract. You read the fine print?"

Duo bets the fine print is invisible and written in Andromedan or something.

"Absolutely. As well as I could."

It being a verbal contract and all, essentially. But a fashion-conscious one!

Duo is not one to frown at fashion! Especially when it's part of the contract.

"You like it? I'm sure you're good at it."

She props her chin in her hand. "It's interesting. Most of it's unfamiliar information, even if the work I'm doing is a lot like some of my wizardly duties."

Beat.

"Except Zed. Can't say I've ever had to deal with anything like Zed. Except possibly that one time with the T-rex."

He snickers, but quietly, like Zed might be nearby enough to hear them. "Oh man, there is no one like that guy in the universe, I swear. Completely bugnuts, but he sure as hell knows how to run a mission. I figure you're in good hands, and he's in better ones."

A grin. "He's got his hands full, that's for sure. K recruited a couple other agents from here. Zed wasn't too pleased."

She figures that that's not something she needs to worry about keeping a secret. If Goldy and Jen haven't already flaunted their new status around the bar, she's a Rirhait.

"He told me that, too." Duo smirks. "I'm not sure who to feel sorry for. I guess all parties deserve what they get. 'Specially the bad guys."

She snickers. "I mostly feel sorry for Zed. Until he sends me to do whatever dirty work needs doing thanks to those two, 'cause I'm an intern, and then I'll feel sorry for me."

"...me too. I'll feel very sorry for you. Until he calls me in to help out too."

Pause.

"Which he sort of did. I hear you're in charge of sorting out the current diplomatic snafu?"

"The Annelid-Krylian war?" She sighs. "More or less, yeah. He's roping you into it too?"

"Weeeell. I may have made a suggestion. Since they seem so obsessed in getting the better of each other. Why not show them whose is bigger? Know what I mean? I figure nobody's equipped for a prank war if the MIBs aren't."

". . . That's probably a much better idea than mine. Terrifying, but good."

"Pile of practical jokes at the expense of both sides might get it out of their systems. Hell, then you can implement your plan when they're too shocked by their spaceships being full of popcorn not to listen." He nudges her side.

Snickering, she pokes him back.

"I like it. My idea consisted of straight-up diplomacy and yelling at them if they wouldn't listen. I think yours has a higher chance of success, honestly."

"See? I was right. Yours will totally come in handy after. I'm not so good at the diplomatic clean up after I wipe the floor with someone."

He tugs on a piece of her hair in response to her poke of revenge. "I totally feel safer, knowing you're out protecting us all." Duo's face is straight.

"Damn straight."

Clearly the only mature response is to tug on his bangs in retaliation.

"Sooooo. When's the last time you pranked the shit out of anyone?"

It's been a while for him! Minor stuff, sure. But full scale prank wars are only for special occasions.
