Scorpius had never played a game of Qudditch as hard as he has the last match of the year against Gryffindor. Having slept an entire night and then awakening in the morning to the same feelings he'd gone to bed with, he had to pour his frustration and hurt into something. And Quidditch had been it.
He comes in through the door to Milliways with Red following close at his heels. He's still wearing his game robes and gear, which he deposits on a couch before lifting the thin shirt he had on underneath. Just high enough to see the starting of a bruise from where a Bludger had grazed his side.
He pokes at it, and looks at Red, who happens to be staring back at him.
"I know," he says, taking a deep breath. "I should've - I should have kept to the sides. As I normally do."
But, he played. He put his heart into the game.
(The Ravenclaw Captain had even remarked on his playing, congratulating him with wide-eyes and saying he had no idea Scorpius had it in him. Maybe the scouts will be looking at him next year, he'd said.
Scorpius should be ecstatic at the compliments.
He's not.)
And now he's got a bruise.
